Hi Luke.
IMO, the text in orange color at the top of your page looks not great.
The blue and white colors are my favorite. The rest, may need improvement.

The site is a little busy and the colors are a bit hard on the eyes. I like the concept of this website ALOT!

I think you would really benefit from some professional design and marketing insight for this.

Keep up the good work man, I really think this idea could fly!

For the design, i too don`t like to colors too much. You need to study something called color contrast. Just as black and white together produce good contrast, and light gray and white produces worse contrast, te same thing applies to colors. A color of full saturation and brightness will make white text that is on top of it, hard to read. Your green and orange buttons fail the contrast test and are hard to read, and your other buttons are not much better. If your intent to to make them "pop" you`d actually be better off making the background of each button darker, then the button text will pop more because of the increased contrast, and it will be easier to read. I`d also stick with solid colors, avoid an overuse of gradients. You also may want to shrink the height of each button too, i understand you probably want them to be easy to see and click, but having an excessive height gives them a bloated feel. Check the link below to see a quick mockup i did.

Obviously yhe text is going to be a little funky since i did some quick and dirty selections, it should look a lot more crisp if implemented. Though i`d personally design the menu a bit differently, but the mockup shows what i`d do if i used with your design.

p.s. This posting system has real issues with firefox...

Thanks again guys, I agree, design wise it still can be better. As I stated in my original post a couple of weeks back is that I`m in no way a designer, I can code alright and make things work etc but just suck at the design. I`ll be looking to improve on this in the future.

My biggest hurdle at the moment is getting more poeple to use the site. I can`t spend big money on marketing the site sadly. I opened it up about 3-4 days ago and the site has received about 330 registrations as of today. I think this is excellent to get in just 3 or so days. The sad thing it looks like most people joining are the helpers which is great, what I need is the jobs.

I`m wondering if I should rethink the model a little bit. A lot of feedback I have gotten has been that people love the idea and things it`s great. But I don`t know whether these people are the chickens or the eggs, and that seems to be the issue at the moment that I`m having. Should I be charging to post jobs, could I be more profitable on pageviews and visits alone with banners.....? I`m not to sure, any business/marketing minded people on startupnation. Always keen to hear any feedback, am I jumping the gun seeing it`s only been 3-4 days?

Hi Luke

The main problem in all business ventures is getting the word out there. To solve that problem, marketing people have come up with a gazillion ideas. Economics professors have studied both markets and people, and all of it goes into the general knowledge-base.

Right now we have many more people looking for work than people with work needing to be done. It`s a buyer`s market for labor. Then, we also have the world-wide Web, where people anywhere can connect with anyone.

Anyone with a computer can access the countless forums, bulletin boards, and other Web sites designed to connect those looking for work with those looking for workers. So the problem once again comes back to visibility.

I`ve thought about all this for our own site, and millions of others have thought about it for their sites. One thing that`s clear is that "ease of use" is critical. Sites have to offer very rapid access, immediate information, and highly targeted, specific information.

Just being visible doesn`t get us anywhere. Target, the retail chain, is constantly visible on Google through paid advertising. Search for lefthanded wing-trimmers, and you`ll see that Target offers these in their stores. Go to the link, and you discover it`s all a lie.

It`s the combination of being visible, plus providing exactly what the searcher is looking for. If people looking for work are finding your site quickly, that`s a good thing. But with few people offering jobs, the next problem is to figure out who are the people a) who are offering work, and b) why they can`t easily offer it on the major job sites.

Perhaps you can build a niche site for very specific kinds of work?
