At www.MyIslandArt.com we are an online gallery specializing in Caribbean and Island-Themed art.  I have finally completed loading my catalog content and the site is now fully uploaded.  Working with the templated table format presented some challenges to say the least.  I would appreciate any of your expert opinions as to it`s layout, design, and effectiveness.  I will now begin the marketing side and working to improve page position.  Thanks in advance.

As you know, Giclees can be printed on several sorts of papers or canvas.  I saw that you state that the choice is up to the artist, which is great.  But then on the "Giclee Reproductions" page, you don`t say what each piece is printed on.  I think that info should be there is a major selling point to art buyers who know what Giclees are.

I also think you need to work on your top banner art more.  The white type is difficult to read over the artwork.  And the images in the banner look all computer-y and digital while the rest of the scans on the site look fine.  But as the first art one sees on the site, I think the banner should have optimal color and reflect the artwork more accurately.  It looks fairly amateurish.

Otherwise the site looks pretty good and is easy enough to navigate.  I`d tweak things here and there to simplify - like combining the About Us and IA&T Cares pages while getting rid of all the legal mumbo jumbo (or moving it) - and lining up the Links tab with all the others.  But it`s a good start.

Yikes! I went to the About page and next thing I knew I was reading a total contract with laws and rights and threats and conditions....and I dunno what!

I`d thought I`d look at a fun site, showing art from the islands, and learn something new. Now I worry that if I bought something from the site I`d end up in a lawsuit!

I get the idea that art should be a business, but to me---especially having come out of a previous music career---it totally reminds me of when the lawyers and accountants took over the big record companies. At that point, art became a minor consideration and commodity. Money became the name of the game.

Thanks guys for the help.  I read your evaaluations and quickly ran to the site with fire extinguisher in hand.  I`ve made some of the adjustments already starting with the heavy legal baggage.  I will make the other adjustments as I believe all the evaluations were valid.  Adjusting the banner image will probably be the most difficult.  I think the image software compressed the file and quality suffered as a result.  This was just the type of insight I needed.  Thanks again.

I just went back to look again and I noticed that you have no questions on the FAQ page.  FAQs are questions.  But I`m not going to suggest rewriting the page with questions.  Rather, just change the title to something else like "Types of Reproductions".  I don`t really like that but maybe you could come up with something shorter and better.  The info on that page doesn`t lend itself to FAQs anyway.

Hoo hah! Now that`s WAY better on the About page. LOL!! I don`t feel like I need a personal attorney to view the site. :-D

On the banner, the problem is the second line of white text sort of disappears into the background colors. So it`s not a compression problem, it`s a contrast problem. That`ll have to be reworked in a graphics program, I think. Yah, kinda of hard, but it`s not so bad that nobody can read it. It`s still readable...just could use improvement.

What`d be cool would be on the "Meet the Artists" bios, down at the bottom, to link directly to their particular catalog, not just the overall catalog, y`know? Then I could read about the artist, click the link, and see their particular world of vision.

For the FAQ page, which is used to answer repeating questions from real people, and is now totally over-used, I think the above suggestion is best from Steve, to just give it a different tab name. :-)

Otherwise, pretty cool site!

Thanks Craig.  I wanted to originally do just what you suggested with the artist`s bio, but I can only link to a page, not a specific position on the page...at least I believe that to be the case.  I`ll revisit the subject.

Thanks to all for the valuable feeback I was given.  Revising Titles, revamping banner graphics, image stock, policy omissions, etc. are all easy fixes.  I`m encouraged to see the result wasn`t "trash the site and start from scratch".  This has been an encouraging process for me.
