Hello to all  at SUN. Totally new to this. I have an idea for a business in the service area. I also think this concept has franchise potential. It`s in a concept stage right now. Nothing trademarked. I would certainly welcome input , but is it safe to discuss my ideas here?Last thing I want is to get ripped -off.. With that being said, I am very excited about this , and want to see it come to fruition.   I have been doing my homework and  and putting in the effort but could still use some direction. Would appreciate any helpful input.
                                                                                             Thanks in advance,

I am also new here Joe, so I really don`t know what to tell you.  But there are ways to tell your story without full disclosure.  Welcome to the board!

One can only gather information and ask questions and validate.  I refer to an old Russian (?) proverb:  Trust but verify!

Learn the basics and analyze someone`s Website to determine if they really know what they are talking about.

Welcome ... and remember that these are not private forums, but content that is freely available on Google to anyone searching for it. You can ask for help with various items without revealing everything, but don`t let your protected secrets out of the bag until you get them secured.

This topic has come up repeatedly, and the best answer (I think) is to discuss the idea in such a way that the critical, defining attributes remain a mystery.

In other words, your concept should have a definition. That definition should include the entire set of all similar types of business and concepts. The single, defining "thing" about your idea should remain secret.

You do have a unique and defining "thing," right? :-)

When you go to trademark, copyright, or patent that "thing" you`re going to have to describe it pretty exactly. However, one thing I`ve learned here is that many times, the actual process of entering a patent offers competition a "look" at what you`re doing.

If your competitors steal your idea using descriptions in your patent, then you`re stuck for legal costs and a long court battle. Something to think about.

no place is safe to freely discuss your business plan - except lawyer`s office or maybe accountant
