I like it and think it would be useful if there`s nothing like that out there.  How would you make money?

As soon as I saw social networking site I was going to stop reading, but I think this sounds like a really great idea and there is probably a good sized market for it. Go for it.

We had someone not too long ago who was building a site like this. That`s not to be discouraging, but to point out that it`s highly improbable in today`s world that someone has a "new" idea along the lines of using a Web site for anything.

Truly new ideas will most often apply to a product of some specific type. Less likely would be a whole new service. By far, the most common practice is to replicate an already-in-place idea.

So the key here isn`t to examine the new-ness of the idea. It`s instead to examine the competitive strategy for selling and/or marketing the thing.

"Social networking" has become as tiresome as adding a "-gate" to ANY kind of scandal. "Watergate" was a new idea. But now we have everything from firefighting-gate to politics-gate. Same with social networking. The term`s practically lost all meaning.

What if you change the phrasing of your mission statement? "I`d like to put together a Web site where stay-at-home moms can get together to chat, ask for advice, give advice, and exchange gossip."

Basically, you`re putting together a forum. Great, but so what? How will you attract those stay-at-home moms? There are lots of forums, lots of places, lots of clubs, lots of groups, lots of magazines. The point is that you don`t want to put together a forum----you want to put together a *product!*

What will be your product?

There are sites out there already like that. It`s not really a new concept.  A lot use meeting.com and MOPS that is the basic concept is linking of SAHMs. I`d further investigate it if I were you because I think there are a lot of others I`m just not aware of. Plus there are other parenting sites that offer similar things like BabyCenter.com that have region specific areas for moms to meet many of which are SAHM.

Hello,

I like the concept behind your idea and as I would be a target market it could be a hit. Maybe starting locally within the city you live in could be a spin on your marketing.
