From my user name you can tell that I have a company that has a niche target audience.  Pure Kink Clothing is my company.  It sells clothing with a  "sex-sells," provacative designs on all the clothing.  My target audience is young men and women who want to wear my clothing line to express their rebellious and counter culture nature.I started the business to learn as much about entrepreneurship as posssible.

I am currently selling clothing using Cafepress, but using PureKinkClothing.com  to advertise all the designs and link to the Cafepress store.

The problem I am having is how to reach my audience online or in the community.  I tried myspace and facebook, but have had no success (not a single sell).  I do not know which blogs I would comment on to get advertisement.

I like my product (and as a result will stand by it). But I am looking for anyone and everyone to rip my business model, marketing model, website and anything else they can think of in hopes of getting better exposure and more sales.  I don`t have a ton of money, so any marketing suggestions need to cost less than $500.  Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

JT

Read the first paragraph of your post. Now look at your website. See a problem? To me, your site doesn`t reflect anything at all as to your product. You have a "provocative, sexy" product; your site looks like you should be selling books. If I were looking for this product and came to your site, I would think to myself, "What .... this is sexy?" Nope, it wouldn`t keep my interest at all.

Are the images on the site the actual images on the product? You don`t sell
"sexy and provocative" images, you sell "sexy and provocative" products, so show me someone "sexy and provocative" in a "sexy and provocative" product.

JT,

Go underground.  You will be surprised how many websites there are out there that might be interested in running something (PR) or you can advertise on.

Hi JT,

I would suggest to build a following. Start locally...attend local fairs and shows. Check out some of the local boutiques and ask to put your product in. I understand that you are working with Cafe Press....there is a bit of difficulty with the profit margin there. My friend who is writing a book about Halloween was selling there and made 1-2.00 a shirt..not much..but we did link it to her website for her. She has since found a shirt vendor and is now selling in a boutique here locally and sold at the comic con conference in California. There definately is a market for your shirts with the younger crowd..they seem to love these t`s. There is a great site, who I think you would would fit perfectly for..they are cutting edge and have great products and offerrings. The site is www.Jaxprints.com . Check them out...ask for a free sample to see the quality of there work. You can branch out from t-shirts to other apparal. Have you though of renting a small kiosk at your local mall? They run about 1000.00 bucks a month..maybe more in the Xmas season...but ask around..hustle and work it get it out there!

OKay, I am not sure how helpful is this, but I have a client in exactly same boat as you are. He has started a business selling theme based T-Shirts.He targets outdoor sports market. May be you can contact him and hep each ther out and learn from each other. I always find mutual help a great synergistic idea. Here`s te link to him: www.mrcapac.com

The site is undergoing some design changes so you might have to digg for the email link.
