I just launched a new website and I am getting the visitors I am just not getting the sales.  I need to know what's wrong and fast.  Please visit my website and tell me your honest thoughts on everything www.CaitiMacCreations.com.  I don't know why I am not getting the sales.  I was thinking about adding a video to the homepage demonstrating my Clingy Cord but I've gotten mixed reviews on that.  Should it be on the Clingy Cord page?  Should I not do a video at all?  I'd really appreciate any feedback.

Thank you,

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

By just looking at your homepage I had no idea what you were selling, but I knew it was for children. That's probably the reaction of most visitors that come to your site. Looking at your homepage, it seems that you have some of your most important things all the way at the bottom. For example the home button, search box, and the description text should be at the top, above the fold.

I would strongly suggest the video because it would clarify what you're selling and actually show your audience why they need to buy it. So when you make the video make sure you have clips of kids tossing their bottles or other things and the mother keeps on picking it up and then show a clip where your product is used and how much easier it is on the mother.

Hope this helps,

Hi Carolyn,

I agree with designleap.  I looked at your site and couldn’t tell what you were selling from your home page.  Remember that most people who land on your web site won’t go beyond the home page if you don’t catch their attention immediately.   I think the average is about 10 seconds or less to achieve this goal.  If you fail, the person will move onto another site without looking at the rest of your site.

Look at some web page design sites to get an idea what I’m talking about.  Yahoo small business web site design tools for instance has some good “home page” designs.  In each one you will see the phrases like “What We Can Do For You” or “What We Do” on the home page.

Carolyn,

As the above posters have said, your website needs to be altered slightly.

The biggest problem is that your homepage gives us absolutely no feedback that we are in the "Clingy Cord" sub-page. It doesn't even say "Clingy Cord" anywhere save for the sub-pages at the top!

Pretend you've never been to your site before. This will help you realize when you assume too much from a visitor.

If you had a real home page, separate from your sub-directories, you can give a spiel about what your business offers and for whom your products are designed.

Hi,

You might also try adding hyperlinks to you images. When visitors click the images, it takes them to the "product page".

I have never been so confused!   Also when I finally figured what you were selling ordering was a complet disaster.   I was so confused.   When I finally figured it out I did a practice order and noticed....YOU DON'T HAVE A SECURE SITE!!   Wow, are you serious?

There is no way I'm going to order for a site that does not secure my financial information..   You might want to look into that.

Also when I first go to your site I thought it was a family album.    I don't mean no offense just giving you my honest opinion

Really look into the security of your site.....that was the most important decision for me not to buy from you site.

                                                                        Thanks,

                                                                         John

While I agree with designleap's criticism's for the most part, I think that you absolutely want to avoid a landing page that looks like a catalog.  The landing page is to establish a mood and to draw the customer in.  Links to product or putting some of your best selling items as you scroll down the page are fine.

The copy is pretty good, especially for the cords, and I like the video.  I would emphasize the benefits to the mom's above all.

The navigation problems were mentioned above and are spot on.

Finally, any way to increase customer interaction would be huge.  Photos from clients, a blog, video, these are the things that establish a community.  Speaking of which, I didn't see that you have a way to establish a mailing list!  I would encourage the use of A-weber or MailChimp to get a way to keep connected to customers.  Someone who has already bought from you is much more likely to do so again that someone who never has.
