Greetings Everyone,

I just opened my online fragrance store and I`m looking for some feedback on ways that I can improve the site. I`m not interested in making it very flashy because I feel that simplicity is best. Not very many consumers like flashy sites that take them 10 minutes just to get to the front page, but I do want my site to pop out enough to attract a variety of customers. Thanks in advance to everyone who responds.

You really need a better header. Way to much white space. I like to know a real address / phone / email contact and that would fit nicely on the left side of the banner. The logo itself could also be better quality. The store itself is OK but pretty much stock Oscommerce.  We do a lot of Oscommerce set ups and it`s not hard to add some extra features.

Hi Shantel,

One thing that I don`t care for is the fact that the entire site does not fit in my screen. I`m not sure if it`s just me or my computer/settings. But when I go to a site I don`t like to have to move the horizontal bar. It takes away from the experience.
Also the pictures do not seem clear....for instance the picture of your featured product on the left. I would suggest that you take a look at other top name online frangrance stores and look at the elements that stand out. I agree that simplicity is great....but you need to have a site that makes shopping enjoyable and pleasant.

I hope this helps.

God Bless,

Woah!! :-D Well, you definitely achieved your one goal of having a page that leaps out into the attention! From a graphics perspective, that`s a big thumbs up.

On the other hand, maybe it`s TOO explosive! :-) You`re looking for simplicity, and I`ll suppose...elegance? If that`s the case, then you`ve inadvertently brought in "exaggeration" and a sort of sledgehammer approach. So you could afford to tone it down.

As to the reaching too far in the screen, did you use "% of screen" or did you explicitly mandate the width of the main table? If it`s the latter, then try to keep it under 950px wide, as that seems to be best readable on the typical 17" CRT monitors. If you center it in the screen, it`ll look pretty reasonable on larger monitors too.

The file size of the large image on your home page is very large 122Kb.
This will be a problem for viewers with slower connection speeds.

The funny thing is that I clicked on it and saw the name ... and totally didn`t expect to see "discount fragrances" from the name of the site. That may be your first strike.

The red and white is too much red and white ... your poor eye has no idea where to go.

I think you need to have something better in that "free shipping" box. Like "Quality Designer Fragrances at Low Prices -- now with Free Shipping!"
