I have been working on my home page and would like some more input on what ppl look for on the homepage when they are checking out a website.
Keep in mind it always a work in progress, so I would like to know what you like to see when you check out my page.

Thanks
Paul

Matt, that`s the site.  He`s offline now so I`ll chime in.  He`s made some great improvements to it!

Thanks TrueGRITS

I think it looks good. Very clean. Easy to navigate.

Paul--

I did see that there are two links "Observation and Security" and "Observation & Security." Not sure if there`s a reason for this.
Also. You might want to make your logo a home page link. That may help navigation.

Hey Paul - glad to see the pictures aligned left on the results pages, that really makes it easier to navigate.

As a Firefox user, I can tell you that there`s an issue with the homepage, it`s skewing the main content section far to the right.  Not sure how much traffic you get from Firefox, but you might want to look into that (if only all browsers played the same).

[I see that some of these have already been mentioned...]

On my browser (Firefox on a Mac Powerbook) there`s a giant black gap right in the middle of the page.  To the left is navigation, then a big black space about 3x the size of navigation, and then the content is all smooshed over to the right side.  It`s as if the "Electronics" up in the title bar has a column all to itself, with nothing under it.

Make the RDBElecttronics graphic link back to your homepage.  That is standard practice.

I see a "forgot your password" link, but unsure what the context for that is, since I don`t see any way to register or login.

Your catalog links, which would be your bread and butter, seem a little lost to me.  Are they in a smaller font than the About Us/Services/Policies links?  Can Catalog be a navigation item, and then have the subcategories nested below it?

For that matter, I think all that About/Policies stuff could be nested in a footer someplace, and you could devote all of our lefthand nav to your product catalog.  People aren`t landing on your site with the first thought being "I`d like to learn about the company and their policies", they`re coming because they want deals on flatscreen tv`s or what have you.

There`s two "Email a friend" links.

I wouldn`t waste homepage real estate with a big text area for Comments, I`d put that on the About Us page or something.  I only see 3 products on your homepage - why not 9?  Fill it up!

In "This Weeks Special Buys", the Week`s should have an apostrophe since it is possessive - the special buys of the week.

Lose the page counter. That`s only interesting to you, and you should be able to get that data from your host.

Excuse the ignorance, I have no idea what Firefox is, but I have IE on Windows XP and the images come up to the right also.

[Web geekspeak ahead...]

I see that it`s the shaded gray bar near the bottom of the page that is causing you trouble -- it is not spanning the table cells the way you want.  Is it supposed to be right under the content window?  The left hand side of your table is resizing to fit the gray bar in the left column.

Change this:

<td colspan="2" align="left" background="/images/InitialSet/gradient-up.gif" width="100%">

near the very bottom of the page to a colspan=4, and I think you`ll get better results.  At least, the black goes away.  Not sure if you wanted that bar to appear across the whole bottom, or just the content, or what.
