Hi all,

This Saturday I have the opportunity to pitch my line of pewter ornaments to Country Living magazine.  There was a preliminary screening, so I know that by receiving an invitation, there is some interest in my product for an upcoming issue.

I have absolutely no experience in this type of thing.  Does anyone out there have any suggestions or guidelines for what I should include?  Should I tell a bit about myself and the company or dive right into the ornaments?  I`ve got to pull this information together by 9:00 am Saturday.  I`ve researched the reader demographics and magazine philosophy.  I want to be sure to pull that information into the pitch.

Anyone?  Suggestions?  Samples of a product pitch?  Thanks in advance!

I guess the first thing would be to examine topics on how to prepare an elevator pitch. (This free coaching show looks interesting.)

Secondly, it`d help if we could see your product. Do you have a Web site link, or some sort of description of why You think your product is cool? :-)

I agree with Craig that you should work your elevator speech.  30 seconds of what you do and what your company represents.

I might try to call your contact at the company and ask "what should I include?  How many minutes do I have?  In the past what sort of things did you like to see included in the presentation?  Can you give me a headsup on "who on the panel" needs what?

Alot of times when you ask those specific questions, the company really wants  you to look good and excel so and they are flattered when you ask them instead of assuming.  They will be very candid with you.  Just make sure that after speaking with them you hone your presentation to the specifics that he or she mentioned.

Good luck Kat.

Update:

Craig,  I did look up those resources on elevator pitches...thank you...and I pitched Country Living magazine on Saturday.  It was so much friendlier than I had imagined.  Just myself and two very wonderful editors.  I don`t remember a word that I said, but I don`t feel like I would have ruined my chances.  It`s just a matter if they feel that the product would work for them or not.

Last question....is it customary to follow up with a thank you note?

Way to go Renee!!  Please keep us posted!  IMO a thank you note can`t ever hurt, but I`m interested to know also.  Is it customary?

Hello Renee,

It`s always customary to send a thank you, and it shows that you are classy, thoughtful and appreciative.
