We have just created a weird site...its called IdeaSplicing.com, the basic idea is for people to put their ideas forward and then knock them around with other people, build on them or splice them as we put it.

The site includes tools like creating groups etc so people can move those ideas forward...

The help we need is for the first few brave souls to go together, throw some ideas into the ring and discuss, debate, splice them with others and see what happens...

We haven`t seen something like this before and are really interested in whether the web can be used to create something special...

http://www.IdeaSplicing.com

Thanks

Andrew

Someone else just referred a different site that did the same thing or pretty close.  I can`t remeber the name of it.

The competing site is the Idea Tagging one.

I wonder how these site ideas are getting started? Is it because so many people have ideas but don`t want to, or don`t have the time to follow through on them? This isn`t at all a slam on the site...I`m just plain curious. :-)

I wouldn`t have thought that this type of site would have multiple instances, but by Jove, it seems there is an increase. Then again, the Web is like that... Look around for a Martian smoke-shifter, and Google will ask you if you mean a "lefthanded" one, or what color you want, sort by prices, and offer you a free domain. Jeez!

So I looked at this site, and it took me too long to figure out the Call to Action. What am I supposed to do? There looks like a survey or something, and some text that`s not so easy to read....How do I get "points," and why would it matter? What`s in it for me, if I get these points?

I`d like to see a really fast-loading, really easy to read site that tells me something. "Got an idea? Put it down, and let`s see if someone adds to it! Click here!"

I`m not interested in any of the navigation buttons, but I`d like to see a fast way to get back to my idea fragment, to find a categorized system, to mark the ideas I want to follow. Look at how fast you can come to SuN, click on Community, and immediately get involved.

Even if I wanted to put up an idea, right now, tonight, I don`t see a "Get Started" button anywhere.

Maybe it`s just me, but I believe ideas are a dime a dozen. The problem is that only one of two dozen actually have value. What`s value? It must profit. Profit doesn`t have to be money, but you must get something in return for developing your plan.

To be honest, I would likely not participate on a site like the one mentioned because I wouldn`t spend hours searching for the one good idea. I feel that by the time I found the good idea and contributed, the likelihood is that someone else (potentially the original poster) has already found a way to `profit` from it.

Let`s face it. There are 24 hours in each day. I sleep 6 of them. I spend about 5 more hours maintaining my life (eat, drink, shower, wash cloths, clean house, pay bills, wash car, grocery shopping, etc.) I personally work seven days a week for 8 hours a day (running my own business isn`t easy for me). Most people spend nine to ten hours a day working when you figure in the travel time to and from work. In my situation, that means there is 5 hours remaining of my day. During that time I maintain my marriage relationship (back massage, watching a romantic movie together, or just being talking) and spend a few hours doing something I enjoy (writing music, playing Chinese chess, or feeding and enjoying the city wildlife). It`s a good thing I don`t own my home, have a pet, or children. Where would I put them in my schedule?

So, in order for me to become involved in an online group like this, the site would be competing for my entertainment time. I just don`t see it winning the fight.

Why am I here at SuN? Because StartupNation contributes to my education and provides a method for gaining insight into business, marketing, and "life plan" ideas. Therefore, it does help me profit.

I don`t mean to sound harsh, but getting together with other so called idea makers just doesn`t seem fruitful if there isn`t a personal connection to each other. That way, as with a musical group, your hobby has a shot at earning a `profit` even though the initial meeting started as a hobby.

I have to say what sets the Idea Tagging site apart is that it creates a game, riddles, clues, silliness, seriouness, I happen to dig it! (no pun intended)

For instance, i have an idea up there now titled: How adorable! Can I Lick Your Face? Yes it`s a real idea, a serious venture for down the line, but heck, at IdeaTagging I can be silly and cryptic about it, i am acutally encouraged to!

Just my two cents....

I also feel ideas are a dime a dozen   but I believe that each have value,  it is the implementation of the idea  that is also important .     Just because an idea may not work out within its original intent  doesn`t mean it isnt a great idea.

I agree. I have ideas all the time, almost daily in fact. The good thing about posting ideas for everyone to see is that if you just have the idea but don`t do it then someone else can. I personally would love to hear that someone read my idea and made a substantial living off of it.

There was a really cool post, awhile back, that pointed out the difference between being in love with doing a thing, versus being in love with the idea of doing something.

Since then, I`ve seen many examples. The one that sticks in my mind is the seminar about investing a portfolio. Some people come out of the seminar talking about which things they`ll invest next, how, and following the principles they just learned.

But others will come out of the seminar and argue forever about the assumptions the speaker made, what interest rates would be more appropriate, whether or not people should be invested in some stock or bond.

The latter group spends all their time discussing the technical points, they`re in love with the general idea of investing. But they`re not actually doing any investing.

There`s clearly a market for a product that "seemingly" offers people the excitement and adventure of "being" an entrepreneur, living on the edge, and allowing them to tell all their friends about "this great idea I`m working on." It`s a sort of Virtual Reality arcade that offers the image of working on an idea, without any of the actual risks and personal investment.

"Give the people what they want" has been around for a very long time. As such, I think these "idea sites" are a viable product. The closer they become to a "sim game" the better they`ll succeed.

But for those of us who are the do-ers of the world, we have SuNation, where we help each other and contribute to our mutual bank of knowledge to further our entrepreneurial endeavors.  I, like Vincent, have limited time to simply surf the ideas.  Here at SuN, I go to the forums that interest me or might be of help to me.  I contribute where I think I might have something of interest for someone else -- my way of giving back to the community.  And, yes, some of it is entertainment value for me.  Adult speak away from my current outside full time job is wonderful, since my current inside full time job is jibberish with a 9 month old and I am a single parent.  (My online business will be my other full time job once it is open --  and I am almost there!)

Thank the Almighty for my ability to multi-task!
