I have been asked by a local company to find alternative uses for their products.  The company is a farm that produces alfalfa and straw and sells their products to local ranchers that use them to feed their livestock.  Every year the company has extra supply and is looking for an alternative way to move the extra product.

If anyone has any ideas of how to market the excess supply please feel free to let me know.  I`ve considered bagging the goods and selling them in 48oz packages to local pet stores.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Nurseries, Gardening centers. Straw is used all the time to cover grass seed in a newly planted area.

I know that gardeners like to use fermented alfalfa to poor on their plants and it makes the colors of the flowers and the production of the vegetables incredible.  It`s called Alfalfa Tea and it contains some other nutrients.  I haven`t really found anything on the market just like it.

I think an idea would be to sell the alfalfa and minerals in a 1 gallon bucket and include instructions on how much water to add and how long to leave in the sun to let ferment.  The customer can then add the liquid to their garden.  The alfalfa is 100% organic so it can also be attractive to the "green" customer.

Good idea, bad idea, what do you think?

Sounds strange, but straw is now being used in construction.  It`s a very good insulator.  Bails of straw are encased in stucco or adobe to make walls.  They might find a market in the construction industry.  Pet food suppliers also buy alfalfa for pig, rabbit and gerbil feed.
