Conventional logic would say that it is easy to give away something for free, but we`re actually having some challenges.

Here`s the scoop.  We need coupons & discounts from businesses so that we can sell our coupon software through fundraisers.  It doesn`t cost the businesses anything to promote their coupons as we make our money from people who buy the software to have access to all the coupons.

The biggest challenge we are facing is just getting the message out.  I think PR would be a great way to do it, just need some guidance.  We are getting fundraiser requests from across the nation, so we need to find a way to get the message out to businesses in their areas.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi Nick,

Companies are inundated with requests today so you need to stand out in some way. Have you tried contacting specific organizations with targeted benefits just for them?

A business will take notice if you conduct the appropriate research, find the right person at each business to talk to and then call or e-mail them with your targeted message. Maybe you can offer them a special tip-sheet or service as a "bonus"?

Of course, you can also post a press-release online with SEO to help build buzz.

You could use the "media/content" request side of the Help A Reporter Out (it`s read by people like us and PR who want to get product/brand into media; I`d send an email to Peter or Meagan off line first to make sure your request is right for their audience; I don`t know that I`ve read one like yours but I can imagine it might be good as you`re only asking for content and not product)

How about going to the major on line coupon sites and contacting their "advertisers" with your offer; you`re giving them additional circulation and they already have experience and offers
http://www.coolsavings.com/ ... not PR and kind of "duh" (sorry).

Similarly, you could approach the Coupon Fulfillment companies with your offer and see if they would pipeline you into their customer base (they`d be creating paying work for themselves and showing their clients how they are seeking opportunities for their brands).

A last non-PR (sorry) thought is to see if you can tap into the Yellow Pages networks; they already have the boots on the ground kind of thing and are very city/regional, focused on the businesses, and again you`re giving them something valuable for free that they can use as a tool for their own marketing.

And do what Melanie says as she`s very sharp; she posted this on another topic here in SuN (very cool; I like how it`s providing value to us and it does not decrease the necessity of having a good release (and PR professional when you can afford it!~))
I offer a list of 40 sites at http://rembrandtblog.com/2008/04/18/40-no-charge-sites-for-your-press-release/ where you can post your press release. In April, these were all free sites, but they may have changes their policies since then.

Are you looking for coupons?  I would be willing to donate about 1,000 3-month Premium memberships to our Poetry & Writing website, www.MoonTownCafe.com

90% of the site is free, we have a small Pemium area for some advanced writing and workshopping that we charge for.

We do a lot of work with schools, libraries and other orgs.  I`m a little bias, but I believe we are the best Poetry & Writing website out there (Writer`s Digest agreed and named us the best in 2008).

Send me an email if you want some free Premium memberships.
