Hi all,

I would like to build a website to house a math tutoring (mainly on-line live tutoring) business.

Is it recommended to pick a name:

1. that is shorter and fairly abstract?

2. that is longer with logical keywords in the url?

These seem to be the options available, because the best scenario would be a website like Math dot com, but clearly sites like that are taken!

I know #1 would be building more of a brand name, which is probably better in the long run, but would take more effort to build up search engine traffic. On the other hand, #2 might receive more traffic quicker, but may not be perceived as much as an expert in the field.

I am looking for advice by someone preferably with experiences in this specific industry. Any insights will be appreciated!

Why not combine the two?  I always think that's the best answer.  It doesn't necessarily have to be short, but it's good to have a catchy title.

But I think, since the business is online (so I'm guessing you'll do most of your promotion online), you should at least have SOME of your keywords in the title.  It's not necessary to have more than one or two really.  So it still doesn't have to be very long.

It depend how you will advertise that home page. If you will use SEO, then better to choose long and full with keywords domain. Othervise it will be very difficult to get in first place at google.

How does www.mathmagician.com sound to you?

Just a quick thought. Sorry if it's already taken.

Whyle choosing a domain name you can consider the following:

1. It should be easy to remember

2. Try to avoid hiphen as people won't be able to remember hiphen

3. If it contains your main keyword, you will get a good result. But it should not be too long.

4. Traffic doesn't depend on only on domain name. It will depend how well you can do on onpage optimization and offpage optimazation.

I hope it helps...

What is the business name?  Do you have one yet?  My suggestion is that the website name matches the business name.

Along those lines, if you haven't picked a business name, you might find a domain name first and base the business name off that.

Whatever domain name you choose, it should be clear exactly what you do from the name of the domain.

SEO is definitely important. So try to put your keyword in your domain name. Also make sure it's attractive to human readers as well.
