CraigL I also agree with you re: Monster.com and CareerBuilder! Craigslist`s job board should be thrown in there too even though it is supposedly more localized!

What a waste of a good web space!

Pretty useless sites!

Looking for jobs on those big sites really is like banging your head against a wall!

Interesting point Pokerman!

LOL!! :-) Now isn`t THAT the $64 question!

Actually, I believe there are only a few basic ways online business seems to work. One is some sort of informational system, connected with making money by ads or downloads, subscriptions, or that sort of thing.

Another is having a niche of some kind. I suspect that the big retailers are going to mostly dominate the general retail items market, and manufacturers will cover their own products well. So that leaves either a niche-market, or doing something with super low pricing, or providing something hard to find.

There are services, but those are hard to organize and run unless they don`t constantly change. Online job matching seemed like a good idea, but it has some fatal flaws. That`s not to say it can`t be done, but not the way Monster and CareerBuilder have gone. In fact, a consolidation of only the local newspapers does work a lot better---that`s a different service I`ve seen.

Sell picks and shovels to the miners!

Everyone wants to get rich from creating an online business.  Develop some unique tools that are "must have" items for wannabe e-millionaires.  Then all you have to do is convince them that they can`t get rich without your particular bell or whistle.

On a more serious note:  Identify a need and then either find or develop a solution for the need.

Okay...I`ve gotta ask...only because I enjoy Pokerman`s posts a lot, and I`m curious. :-)

What was the need you saw (Pokerman) that required a solution?
