I am curious to ask...has anyone had any experience with that National Association for the Self Employed (NASE)?  http://www.nase.org/

I know they offer member benefits such as tax and legal advice, discounts on all sorts of things from car rentals to computers, but it seems the biggest thing offered is health insurance.  From what I understand, there are monthly dues charged in addition to the cost for the health care.

Has anyone purchased insurance through them or used their benefits?  I hadn`t heard of them until yesterday, and I wanted to see if anyone here at SUN had...

Thanks!

Becky

Becky,

Based on past knowledge that I haven`t tap in a while, the NASE is a good organization. I perfer the National Federation of Independent Business, NFIB. They, too, offer insurance and also discounts from vendor partners. The info on their website is very good, their newsletters are full of useful info, and they have local chapters where you can get involved and meet local members. Worth a looksie in my opinion.

Good luck with your venture.

Becky,

I`m a rep for the National Association for the Self-Employed.  There are two levels of membership included in monthly premiums.  You have a choice of one that is $10 of it or another that is $40.  There is a decent size catalog with benefits and discounts, some that are worth $40 a month on there own.  Let me know if you have more questions.

In my state (NC), NASE has one of the worst complaint records of all health insurers. They also appear to have a lousy reputation amongst entrepreneurs like ourselves, based on lawsuits throughout the country. NASE and Mega-Life are in a sense one company (you can`t get either without getting both). Numerous State Attorney`s General have or are investigating this link, as well as the level of complaints received through their Department of Insurance offices. I don`t like slinging mud where the facts don`t warrant it (i.e. `NASE sucks`), but in this case, I`d be really careful before I did business with them. It all comes down to claims and how they are handled.

Have to say I agree with the other guy.  I used NASE for quite some time, terrible experience.  They put you on the highest membership level with the highest fees, and make it difficult to downgrade. And BTW, the fees don`t even have anything to do with coverage, they are for extra discounts, etc.  that I never used. Long run it was cheaper to get a personal policy.

My insurance is through NASE - or Mega Life and Health.  Fortunately I`ve not had occasion to utilize the insurance yet.  I`ve had it for a year and half, the premium is low, but has higher deductibles so I`m sure I`m getting what I pay for.

I`ve not used any of the other benefits and in fact don`t really know what they are.
