VoIP Buyer's Guide

Step 3: When VoIP is beneficial to your office

Contrary to belief, switching to a VoIP phone system is relatively simple. There are a few things to possess before you introduce VoIP into your office:

High Speed Internet

Broadband Internet access is the most important requirement for VoIP. High-speed Internet is a necessity because a digital phone system, such as VoIP technology uses the Internet to transmit information and telephone calls. Before installing a Voice over IP phone system, make sure your current network has the ability to handle the additional traffic from sending and receiving phone calls. Have your service provider test the network to make sure everything will run smoothly.

VoIP Adapter

Your current office phone will not be up to par with a VoIP system. VoIP converts the sound of your voice into packets, which are sent through an Internet connection. VoIP adaptors connect to your existing phone so you can make VoIP calls. Keep in mind that most VoIP companies will provide you with a phone made for VoIP. You can also use the microphone on a computer, or replace your existing phones with specialized VoIP phones if purchasing an adaptor is not an option.
