Ginny - sounds like you are well on your way to establishing an empire! Congratulations.

There is a lady out there name Joan Stewart that calles herself the Publicity Hound (http://www.publicityhound.com/). I do not work for her but have subscribed to her weekly eNewsletter for years. I highly recommend checking her out. Every issue is full of great advice on how to get free publicity. Visit her website to learn more. I recommend her to anyone that is seeking to learn more about how to publicize business, products and/or services.

Keycon, I picked up on the Joan Stewart website and signed up for the newsletter. It looks like good stuff! Thanks. If you get a minute, can you check the forum on Market Research for Very Little Money and let me know if you have any ideas.

Hi everyone--

As a former newspaper writer/editor myself, I wanted to concur with VickiJ`s tips. They`re right on.
I`d also add that you want to make sure your news is actually news. Think and write like you`re a reader who has no emotional ties to your company or product. What can you do for them? How can you improve your lives? Where`s the "wow!" Etc.
I know personally how much crap is out there and when an editor sees a story that`s relevant to his/her readers, it will stand out.
I once had a news release about a company buying new fax machines. Hold the presses! Clear space on the front page!
I wish I was kidding.

Yes, it is up to us to find& sell the story in our Press Release. My intention is to share how simple it is to do yourself. I just put how to make your own press release in my search, found a site and wrote my own when I started.  That worked!  My local news did not need anything but my story when I started.
I am happy to answer any questions about how I do my own P. R. with great success....

Thanks Ginny great lead for me with prleap. I am attempting to use techology in the way I market my small business. Its called Gofer Ice Cream and we are located in CT.

What do you think of my headline: Gofer Uses Podcasting to Make Ice Cream More Sticky!

I need to get more traffic and interaction between the customers first before I put it out to the media. but what do you think of that?

thanks

Jay

 Hello everyone

Thank you for the wonderfull tips. I learned a great deal of knowledge from this forum. I`ll forever be in debt to your priceless advice. I was thinking about using prnewswire as a service before I learned of the do it yourself technique.

Does anyone know of a site that contains these types contact names, numbers or listing of  editors?

BigApple,
It is just this simple. I put in my search key words. Like: news tips contact us. (my product categories, example Beauty, health) and the contact information that has come up is endless)
Make a do it yourself Press Release* there are site`s with step by step instructions. There are free ways to get them sent out to many interested people.(go back and read from the beginning of this Forum about Free Press)

Wow!  I am saving all of these posts...thanks everyone.  It sounds like I`d better get on the stick...

I have to say that I too wasted money on "professional" pr help...I would think that editors would want to hear directly from the company itself...the company owner has the best story angle, wouldn`t that be true?
