Hi all,
As some of you know I make and sell my own lines of specialty foods. Having celiac disease, my products are all gluten free (no wheat, etc.) and I cater to many people who have food intolerances.
I keep running out of shipping peanuts and need to buy a large bag of them. I was going to use biodegradable but I recently discovered that often they are made from wheat starch (more commonly corn or potato starch). I only know a couple of people who are allergic to potato but I know many who cannot even so much as touch wheat or corn without reacting. Therefore I`m thinking I should not pack my food items with biodegradable peanuts.
I am considering using regular peanuts and putting a note into each order asking that consumers and my retail stores please recycle the peanuts themselves or drop them off at a local store that ships things. Do you think this is okay? I want to help the environment, but I don`t feel comfortable putting possible allergens in with my products - given my customer base.
