http://www.greenandchic.com

Though I have ZERO experience in web design and HTML, I put this together using Pappashop.com hosting and HTML using demo versions of BBEdit and Dreamweaver. (which I never used before so keep that in mind!).  My first site was with Joomla but I had such a hard time navigating it and getting it too look right so I switched to something more user friendly.

It will be an online store specializing in personal care products.  Eventually the products will be featured on the home page with categories listed on the left hand side.

I’m having a harder time with the Wordpress blog http://www.greenandchic.com/blog  which I just switched from .com to .org.  I don’t know how to get the same look as the site (not that there is much too it).  I would like my logo on the blog and border if that’s possible.

Let me know what you think.

Yeah ... kinda basic, huh?

That`s ok, if it gets your viewers attention, but for me, although I like simpler designs, this is kind of blah. A simpler site needs something that grabs attention, like a colorful logo or an image that stands out and gets attention, with a short tagline, but I don`t see that here. There is really too much whitespace, no cohesion to the elements, or obvious layout. So, it`s ok for someone that`s learning, but could use some improvement.

The large image .... I have no clue what it represents, or why it`s needed on all your pages.

I think that once you start adding products, you should then get a tighter layout to showcase them and get your message across more clearly.

Your blog ( Wordpress ) shouldn`t be too hard to import your logo and make some minor changes in the css file, but if you`re new to html, you`d be better off having someone add these for you.

Once I start adding products, the photo on the home page will vanish. The products will be the focal point.  I need it there because I have nothing else to put there.

Should I add my "about" message to the page instead of the image for now?

I got it right away, the photo, I mean.  Her products are grain and nut extracts, thus the bowl of grain and nuts.

But it`s everywhere, I guess, because the page is a work in progress.  It`s not bad considering that the OP says she has no HTML experience.

You need a subhead.  I think that your logo is OK, it doesn`t have to be a graphic work of art - the company name done with style is used by many companies.  For a subhead, you need something like: "Featuring products made with the best fruit, nut, and plant oils"

Your signup needs to be explained - why should a customer sign up?  It should also be at the end of the page, not the middle.

I think you are on the right track.  Add more products and photographs then ask for another review.

Personally, I would create a message saying something along the lines of your catalog being launched very soon ( with a date if possible ), the types of products you will be offering, and a message to return when the catalog is online. The key is to create enough interest in what you`re going to offer to get people to actually return.

Your "about" message should stay on it`s own page.

Also, the newsletter sign up should be in the left column, or somewhere noticeable but not the center of attention.

Hi Barose,

Great start!!! I found myself staring at the page and tring to figure out what was missing. Besides the products, and some more content of course, I think something is missing.

While I am not a fan of font colors, I think it might look better if you chose a green font color. Maybe you can use different shades for bold and highlighted text. It would be a matter of playing with it a bit and making sure it doesnt overwhelm the page.

I would stay away from black and white images if you plan to add any.

Hope this was helpful and.....GO GET IT!!!!!!
