Hi Ideas and Innovations,
I like your concept of using the "competitive advantage" and I would offer an approach I have used throughout my career - develop the project/product/service in a non-competitive environment. Having successfully worked in 54 countries throughout my career, I have "learned and developed" many techniques used by the various cultures (along with key contacts in many countries) that allow you to "interface" with the key decision-makers and the "specification-writers" to assist in the formation of the project/product/service.
I use the example of beating the Japanese at their own game in a Telecom project in Malaysia for ESSO-Malaysia in the early 1980s. Through "effective interface" with the Client at all levels, we received the contract and there was considerable "add-ons" in several synergistic areas.
This is another area that is seldom used in my opinion - the use of synergistic market analysis in the global marketplace. Since retruning to the area of my birth (SE Michigan), I have been invited as a Guest Speaker by many organizations where I have developed the concept of the Business/Marketing Tridents, Synergistic market analysis and Key Success Factors from a Global Perspective into a methodology in which I have also incorporated one of the principles of TRIZ. At the end of August of this year, I am "parachuting" into a "city on the globe" and de-bug/perfect the business models.
Isn`t life grand after Corporate America!!!
Just wanted to share a few thoughts.
