I've been doing IT consulting for a few years, but in the last few months, the "cloud" has begun to accelerate exponentially. Now, Microsoft has discontinued Small Business Server and Home Server.  It’s as if, the ground I stand on in my industry has suddenly turned to sand.  It’s simply going away.  I knew it was coming, but I was not expecting it last Friday.  Anyway, it happened to many industries.  Remember the TV repair man?  Anyway, I have to adapt or get out.  If I adapt, I’ll largely be reduced to a salesman for cloud services.  That does not appeal to me.  I could learn to write C# code, I’m considering that, but I may not have the personality for it.

I could try to get a job, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.

Or I could do something new……

But what?  I know people buy what they want not what they need.  I learned that the hard way selling business services.  I am struggling to come up with something legitimate to sell people would want.  Maybe some sort of service to the Baby Boomers?  But what?

Would love to hear your thoughts.  I’m stuck.

hanks!

This is not going proper you need to focus on your goals only instead of searching here and there. First of all you should choose a business according to your interest.

Whatever you choose, go for something that's aimed at business customers rather than personal customers. The same person will pay more - and with less persuading - for a business expense than for something personal.

With that in mind, try to find a service or product that a business person really needs - that's the key.

I know people buy what they want not what they need.

Give people what they need, with what they want.  I heard the term, "give them the pill with the ice cream" somewhere.  This allows you to provide the value they need, while giving them what they want.  You usually have to give them what they NEED for true, long term value to be there for them.
