Hi Jeannie,

Your experience going to QVC was exactly like the one I had last year. And, you are right about the fact that their market is not necessarily children friendly. Our product  is for all ages but I think they thought it was just for kids.

Regardles of my experience last year at QVC, I will be attending the call in Los Angeles but at least this time I do know what to expect. And, I am hoping that Oprah will make the difference with regard to product. After all, she does have the Angel Network and we are selling Angels!

Good Luck and thank you for sharing your experience!

Boy did you answer the questions I’ve been stewing about since I got the nod to do a demo from QVC/Oprah.  I’m scheduled for March 23 in Chicago and I hadn’t a clue what was to take place.  I produce granulated maple sugar and that’s what I will be trying to push on them.  I don’t think I will have much of a chance to be chosen, but as the saying goes “You can’t score any points in the game if you don’t show up.”

What kind of props did you bring and could you see what those around you brought?  How long did you speak.  The rules said 10-15 min.  I will long run out of things to say by 10 min!!  Hey, it’s only maple sugar.  You couldn’t give them any product samples, but can the food judges taste the food they are looking at?

If you or anyone out there has any input on this, it would be extremely helpful.

Thanks and good luck!!

Umm, I`m back Jeannie,

I got so excited that this forum came up I forgot to ask my other questions.  Did you discuss price at all?  If not then, when?  In going through some of the other posts, I noticed a speaking time frame of 5-8 min.  Any help on this?

Thanks again, I`m sure I will have scads of other questions you or the others can help out on.  I am really new to this kind of thing (forums and posting) and feel kind of clutzy (kind of like dancing with a black lab, it never looks very smooth).

Hi Greg,

I didn`t bring any props, only my product. From what I can see around me that day, people just showed their products too. I spoke for about 5-10 minutes since they only give you up to 15 minutes. After talking about my product, I demonstrated how my product worked. I did a before and after kind of scenerio (I wrote with my left hand without the SmudgeGuard on and the rep can see how my hand got dirty with smudges. After wearing the SmudgeGuard, I showed her that it kept my hand clean from smudges.)

I didn`t see anybody with food, so I`m not sure if the QVC rep can taste it or not. But it wouldn`t hurt to ask them to try it! Go for it!

Good Luck!

Dear Greg,

In the end, they will ask you what your retail price is and what the wholesale price is. That`s about it. They don`t try and talk business with you on that day. They said they will send you an email to let you know if they will accept your product or not.

Hope this helps!

Hi Jeannie,
Thanks for the prompt reply.  It will give me something to focus on as far as the presentation goes.  You were kind of the sacrificial lamb so the rest of  us  have a visual of what to expect.  Good luck with the SmudgeGuard.  I am a righty but can really see what a good idea this is.

Jeannie - I just found your post. Thank you so much for telling us about your day! I hope you get that magic email!

It is exactly as I pictured it would be. I am also curious about food samples. I emailed them and have note received a response yet. I`ll keep trying, or I`ll call if need be.

Thanks!

Jeannie -

Thanks so much for your response! The information you`ve provided is extremely helpful. I am kind of relieved that it`s not a panel of 3 or 4 people - but I wonder if the Oprah/QVC product search will be different. It should be a fun experience either way. Did they tell you how long you would have to wait to find out whether or not they have accepted your product?

I am kind of anxious to find out whether or not my product will be something QVC will like. I would like to set up some appointments with craft chains, but I wanted to give QVC a shot first since the exposure would be great and give me some credibility.

Thanks again Jeannie!  I can`t wait to hear everyone`s take on presenting to QVC. I think it is just a great opportunity to fine tune our pitching skills!

Hi Chris,

I hope I get the magic email too, but I seriously doubt it.  After they told me that their customers are mainly baby boomer women, I figured I wouldn`t make the cut since my product is mainly for school-aged children.  That`s why, even though I have an appointment for the QVC/Oprah on the 29th, I decided to pass on it.

Melissa,

Let me know if the QVC/Oprah was any different.  They told me that I would get an email on April 27. So we`ll see.

Jeannie
