That happened to me also when I filed for a DBA.  I want to know why our local govements are selling our info to spammers.  Not only do they tax us,  they sell us.

Just complaining.

My 1st mistake was so stupid, I`m still kicking myself over it... I had just started up a home-based Interior Design business in Ireland. On that particular day, I had received my first batch of business cards, and was suitably excited.

We currently live in a small housing estate on the edge of  Listowel in North Kerry. There is a huge amount of building going on, and a show house was open for public viewing. My husband and I went along out of curiosity, and on entering, I saw a mantelpiece covered in piles of business cards. I`m originally from Germany and there, all local trades are welcome to display their cards in new showhouses (obviously you don`t claim to having been involved in the showhouse when called). So I put my cards down as well....

That evening, the door bell rang and a rather stone-faced lady shoved my business cards in my face. Of course, she was the Interior Designer who had fitted the showhouse and of course, she was angry because I had put claim to the design by putting my cards down... I felt so stupid, it beggars belief! I apologised and the next day, I bought an expensive box of chocolates and went to see her in her shop. I grovelled again and she actually smiled, so I suppose we`re okay.

This episode has been going around the town (Ireland is a small place) and I decided to wait until the new year before I started marketing myself properly to allow some grass to grow over my gaffe!!

I researched this when I was building the "contact us" page for our site, and I found this useful free online tool that will build the obfuscated email link for you:

http://www.healyourchurchwebsite.com/obfuscator/

I opted to leave my email address totally off my website, and rather I have a form that people can fill out and it sends me an email behind the scenes...

OhhBoy... I too have experienced the mailers.  I didn`t use a PO Box when I started my company and since I am currently website only I haven`t changed to an actual store front address. I think I will look into a PO Box, thanks for the suggestion.
