Sort of random I suppose but I`m recommending Sigur Ros for startup music.

To me. It`s highly "emotive", as apposed to inspirational. The sounds are moving - yet melancholy in a way. Not quite sure what kind of mood I would have to be in to fully appreciate it. The closest thing to this that I listen to is Natalie Merchant.

I really like Natalie Merchant as well. Gorgeous voice, real songwriting talent.

:-) Okay...I went out an listened. I like it.

My music tastes are so eclectic I couldn`t really say what I like or don`t like. As a musician, I like just about anything well done, skillful, interesting, and unusual. On my podcast, Joel selected an unusual version of the Christmas carol involving "do you hear what I hear." I loved it!

Being in a promotional mood, I sent around the link to various folks, letting them know I`d had 13 minutes of fame. I was astounded at the number of strongly negative reactions to that song! Some on a religious basis (corrupting a traditional carol), others just because it was "too weird." Amazing!

I tend to listen to traditional jazz, leaning toward swing. But I remember being really into what we used to call "fusion" music, back in the 70s, like Kitaro and other synthesizer-based music. Enya probably most typifies that style in today`s world.

Some of this music reminds me a lot of that style, and I`ve always enjoyed it. I`d never heard these songs, so thanks for the tip. :-)

I love Sigur Ros and have all their albums on my iPod and iTunes
Very Icelandic but then again I tend to like all things Scandinavian, design,
architecture, etc., except the food...Lutefisk anyone?

(Oh gawd....I tried Lutefisk ONCE! Now I make a simulation of it by mixing plain gelatin, cornstarch, Elmer`s glue, water, and leftover cartilage from spare ribs.)

CookieMonster, I`m so happy to see this post! I heard about Sigur Ros about a year ago, and since then, have recommended them to about everyone I know. I`m a huge fan; great recommendation!

Thanks EmilyP. Some people have described my listening habits as obsessive. Always nice to meet another fan!
