Hello. I hope to receive some constructive critiques here.
A couple of months ago, I was an active member on a set of forums that provide for community discussion amongst persons who ride or own single-cylinder motorcycles. Due to lack of structure and professionalism, I decided to form my own community, focused solely upon the motorcycle that I ride. The lack of structure lead to an abundance of repeat questions. To that note, I wanted to ensure that my forums have a clearly defined location for most, if not all, new threads.
DR-Z Forums is where I have chosen to launch this effort. I have spent a good deal of my time over the past two weeks readying the site for submission to DMOZ (done today). My first focus was on hierarchy, second on navigation, third came a launch page with recent posts, and finally advertising links. A couple of days ago, I received a shipment of die-cut lettering for application to motorcycles; the concept has been met with great applaud.
My near-term plans for the site are to begin an email campaign to potential site sponsors and develop a handful of articles for sticking to the top of each appropriate forum. Sometime soon, I would like to contact a graphics artist to develop a comfortable skin. Further out, I plan to develop an accompanying website to sell a range of new upgrade parts - my two current moderators are a machinist/drag racer and a master engine builder.
So, am I missing something? Are there any intermediate steps that you feel I could take to better my chances for success? Thank for any time you spend here; it is appreciated.
One other note... the site has been publicly accessible for only 12 days now.
