I have this awesome idea - a really, really great idea for a e-commerce site. Only - my thing is that I like to make them, not run them.

So I went looking for someone who would take this FREE opportunity. All I needed is someone who is interest in a home-based business and knows something about children`s clothes. (A stay at home mom is fine.) What they would get is a store, training, marketing, everything down to the business and marketing plan ... they just have to learn and run with it.

First person I approached is doing something a lot like this already, only she`s doing it on eBay and paying all those ever-increasing eBay fees. Did she take it? No. She likes her system, doesn`t want to do something else, and she `tried this before and it didn`t work`.

Second person I approached is a woman running a local brick and mortar store ... this would be an expansion to her already-thriving mom-and-pop joint. Did she take it? No. She`s too busy already and she `tried this before and it didn`t work`.

What I`m assuming from both of these experiences is that the people spent a few weeks tossing up a self-made Yahoo! store without any knowledge of internet marketing and, of course, the venture `failed` within a month or so.

I also think that I spend too much time being an entrepreneur and working with entrepreneurs that I have a hard time understanding this idea that people could walk away from a free gift worth thousands that could also produce them income for a long, long time ... not to mention that it would be a real business, not just some "I sell stuff on Craigslist to make money" type of deal. I also come from the mindset of "I`d rather cut off my leg than work for someone else ever again" but I know a lot of people (my husband included) like the security of a "regular job" with a "regular boss".

So help me out here ... what kind of person do I need to find to run this kind of thing?

And what is it that makes an entrepreneur ... an entrepreneur? (C`mon Craig, you know you`re just dying to make me a novel on this one! I`m eagerly waiting your well-thought-out response on it.)

Nobody will accept the solution to a problem unless they see it as a problem.

Although this expression`s been around forever, I`ve only recently come to see the awesome truth of it.

YOU may see a new market, new idea, how easy it would be, how it would help. YOU may see that it`s the solution to a problem lots of others seem to have.

But unless they first see it as a problem themselves, they won`t be interested in solving something that`s not a problem.

Corollary:
If you give someone a solution to what YOU see as a problem, they`ll somehow make sure it falls out of their life. The solution came to them without effort, solved a problem that doesn`t exist, for them, and so it`s valueless.

It`s one reason why so many social programs go unused. For example, society may see that one solution to unwed mothers is free contraceptives. But the girls who want sex, don`t understand how pregnancy takes place; they don`t see why they should use contraceptives.

Boy Nikole, I don`t know.  I`ve tried many things that "didn`t work" but it was usually because I didn`t know what I was doing and hadn`t done enough research before I started.  If I was offered that opportunity by someone who had already done the research, and could show me why it would work, I would jump at the chance.  Some people get "comfortable" where they are, other people are always reaching for more.  You can`t give people passion.

Nikole, I agree with the first reply. If they don`t see a problem with their life (even if they are swamped with debt) they won`t try to change. They ARE comfortable where they are and you would have to give them examples of different situations to help them see the problem they may have. Then give them the solution. Also, don`t give up so soon - talk to more people, don`t stop at two. The person that would be interested might be the 5th person you talk to or the 20th person, Don`t give up so soon.  I try to talk to 5 people a day about my business and how it would benefit them. Out of a week I may have 2 to 20 interested in really giving my company a hard look. When that happens usually they see how my company can benefit them.

People have to WANT to change, unforunately we can`t make their life better without their help in wanting to change or better themselves. Thats the nature of the Human Being.

Good Luck and just keep talking to people and give them a big smile whether in person or over the phone (they will still know your smiling - it comes thru the phone line!)
