Wow, Russell Simmons! Maybe he can talk about why what Don Imus said was bad, while all of Russell`s rapper artists on his label can call women much worse and get away with it. And why his wife, Kimora Lee whatever, was busted for marijuana possession a few years back. What role models!

I actually don`t know who any of those people are, but thought it might be a good show due to the subject. That`s all.

Wow Jeff. Are you hosting a hatefest?

Where do you get `hatefest` out of that? Are you attempting to make this a racial thing? It`s not - it`s a language thing.

If you think that Russell Simmons and every other rap artist and producer are doing a good thing by calling women b&*^&, ho`s, and everything else, I would say that the hatefest is being held by a race that just can`t get it`s act together.

If this country wants to talk the talk about hate speech, we need to walk the walk with it as well.

I could care less about Russell Simmon`s opinion on anything. If that`s successful, I`ll choose another role model.

That`s not Big Success - It`s Big Hypocrisy.

I know this is off of the whole subject of the post, but it was brought up. It interest me to hear those who were offended saying it offends "our people". If there is an "our people" then what are we worried about. Because you have seperated yourself from everyone else. The mere thing you are trying to eliminate. So the battle is not so much a race issue it`s that in America there isn`t "our people" or "our race" it is ALL OF US. I listen to all types of music. And rap is one of them that I often listen to. And like BrandAlchemy has stated they are very rough for a better term towards Americans in general. But to flip the coin there are many songs that have been sung by other race artists that are the same way. And not all rap music is this way. Maybe he (Russell Simmons) has signed artists that do use bad language and such, but he has also been quoted to saying that these things are not necessary. The foundation of such music did not have the fighting and duragatory terms. They were just people who just wanted to rhyme and have fun at a block party.

Cspurgeon:

Go back and read this post again. There is no mention of `our people`, as if you imply that I was using the not-to-be-used-because-it`s-racist `you people` phrase.  I didn`t use either phrase. Where did you get that from?

If Russell Simmons, as you say (I have no idea if he said this or not), has been quoted as saying this type of language is unnecessary, then why does he allow it on Def Jam Records? He`s the boss, right? You and I both know why he allows it - it sells music. Which doesn`t make it right, especially when he and every other black leader comes down on Don Imus for using language which would be light on a some rap albums.

Rhyming and block parties are fine - I`m down with that. What I`m not down with is calling women b^&%^!^ and ho`s, talking about killing cops, selling drugs, pimping women, etc., etc, for which a particular type of music has become associated with, and it isn`t country music.

No, it isn`t `all of us`, either. Anyone who believes that this country isn`t deeply racially divided has their head in the sand. That worked for `We Are The World, We Are The Children`, but hey, that was way back when Michael Jackson was still a black guy, lived in this country, and didn`t yet molest children.

He`s none of those things now.

Why is this related at all to entrepreneurship? Well, the topic was started on heroes in business or whatever, and his name was mentioned. It`s also relevant to point out that marketing includes knowing your audience and who isn`t your audience. Which points out that not only does Russell Simmons think his audience likes this crap, but guess what else? They actually do, by the millions. That`s a problem, whether we call it a we-people problem or a you-people problem.

That`s a shame.
