Does anyone have any recommendations on membership site software or webmasters who have experience in this?  I`m planning on making my site into a membership site.

Janet,

It depends upon what you want "membership" to accomplish. You can add a simple login to enable people to see anything on your site or content in a specific directory. You can go with something similar to SUN where you keep a database of memberhsips and/or allow/control what each type of member can do - features they can access.

Looking at BusinessESource.com, I imagine you want to enable paid members to login to access your services while still providing FREE information and your website to promote your services.

Roland,

Yes I would still have free items such as selected articles, tipsheets, and the newsletter.  The paid membership would include all HR forms, all types of HR policies, guides, tips sheets, and articles. I would also like sell individual ebooks and guides.

Hi Janet--

There are a number of off-the-shelf software solutions for membership sites.  I wouldn`t hire a programmer to create this from scratch, as I think that would be a waste of money.

Here`s are the ones I know about:

http://www.membergate.com/ (this is the company that I use for my membership site)
http://www.visiongateportal.com/
http://www.memberize.com/
http://www.amember.com
http://www.memberclicks.com

And, if you want great info about running a membership website, join MembershipSiteOwner.com.  It`s well worth the $97 yearly membership fee.  One of the downloads/articles you can access when you join is an evaluation of membership site software.

HTH!

You can have paid access to forms, sell ebooks, etc by using an ecommerce program too. You can have the member pay for each item or even allow paid access by month (subcription). So the important thing to do is to list all the functions and features you want or anticipate wanting... then compare that to the functions/features of each program.

Yes, there are a lot of scripts/programs that can provide the features/functions you may want. So, you may not have to hire someone to create a script.

Here is another example of DIY decisions...

- to hire a web person to figure out what scripts/programs to use?

- to learn a new program or have someone set it up for me?

- to design / modify the script myself of hire someone to do that?
