Hi everyone,

I'm working on a web-based tool that makes organizing flight instructors' lives simple - from record-keeping to scheduling lessons - all online.

I'm thinking of charging a small monthly fee to use the services - but I'm concerned about market size. Based on my research, there are about 100,000 flight instructors in the country right now. That's not a huge number, but then again, I don't need a huge percentage of that to make a decent income doing something I love.

What are your thoughts? Worth it? Too small of a niche? There isn't really competition for this, so it would be largely just me at this point from what I can tell.

Casey seems like a good idea. If you analyzed your competition and market very well, with 100,000 flight schools you should be still able to make money. For example if you can get 1000 schools to signup for $10/ month each, its still $10K per month. Thats not bad right.

I would recommend you to sketch out a draft plan with financial needs and revenue, marketing etc., to take the final decision.

Thanks for the reply. You are right - it doesn't take much of the market to make it a profitable venture - and more importantly, something I enjoy. :)

The more I think about it, the more I think others have probably capitalized on smaller markets whether it's geographically or whatever.

That what you need to find out by searching google. Might have done locally but if you can put together a good social media type website something similar to hoopcoach.org. I think you have good potential to market and get some traffice.

As per my quick check, I don't see anything in regard to flight schools. May be you can spend time and find out.
