In my business I rely on People and their knowledge as my product to my clients.  Unfortunately I am having problems keeping people or enough product on the hypothetical shelf to supply demand.

Does anyone in the services industry have any suggestions to help manage my human / knowledge based product and it`s delivery to the customer?

My biggest problems are finding people with the skills needed and secondly keeping them from leaving.

This might be a very lame (poor) idea, but have you thought about creating a database styled, book of knowledge? Of course it could be done on the computer. Then you would employ knowledgeable people, and they could use your “reference manual” of ideas and knowledge. As the solution book is compiled, you could eventually market it as the bible to your industry.

I don’t know if this will work in your situation, but logically, the only way you can pass knowledge is to write it, tell it, teach it, or show it. Unfortunately we do not have USB compatible components in our heads… yet… :) Have a great day.

Vincent,

I have already begun this process. I am creating guides for my instructors and for my students.  I finished the first draft of the instructor guide and am starting the student guide which should be finished shortly.

Once I have a manual completed it will help me to be able to take people that have less technical skills but have potential and train them. This will alleviate some of my product strain, but my main problem is finding people that have enough skills and who only want to work part time.

I don`t have any full time positions and so it is hard for me to find people who only need part time work who have the skills I am looking for.
