Hello all!

I am in the process of developing an educational related website that will offer free information. We will not be selling any products. We are expecting alot of traffic flowing through our site mainly from High school and College students.

Our hope is to launch this site by Oct. 31.

My question is how do I get advertisments ads on the site?  What are my options? What else is out there?

I`m eventually going to do this, and have been thinking about how I`ll generate revenues.

Personally, I don`t like the idea of making money from advertising. My opinion, but I don`t like ads all over the place, ad-sponsoered "free" sites, or anything along those lines.

Instead, I figure I`ll have a whole bunch of information and articles on this single Web site. Although plenty of people might choose to bookmark the site, to refer to it (hopefully regularly), a lot of other people might want to download various articles to give to someone else, read on the toilet, or otherwise have on hand.

I`d rather create certain summary booklets or pamphlets, pulling together many different areas on a Web site that can be hyperlinked, and placing them into a linear fashion, in print form. Then people can buy the essays, pamphlets, booklets, or perhaps a whole book here and there.

Here are some choices:

Find "sponsorship" for certain areas, like how SuN has VISA to sponsor some of its podcasts.

Sell ads on a CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions) basis. Identify who your audience will be, and then create a list of companies that would benefit from advertising to this audience. Target those companies and sell the advertising.

Use advertising programs. Commission Junction is a popular one, as is Google AdWords.

Use affiliate programs, like if you recommend a product ... link to the Amazon affiliate link for this item to make a commission off the sale.

The top 2 choices will probably be the most profitable for you.

What exactly do you mean by "sponsorships"?

Sponsorship is like Nikole mentioned above. Look around suns poscast area and you will see..."this is sponsored by" .Plenty of sites seek out sponsorships to aspects of their sites.

In addition to recruiting advertisers yourself, you can leverage the scale of a third party to do the work for you. I run ads on two of my sites with Google Adsense and Text Link Ads.

With these services, you put some simple code on your websites and they handle the recruiting of advertisers and payment. In exchange for their services, they take a cut of the profits and then pass the rest on to you.

This may sound crazy, but I live in NYC, and many of my friends are in advertising. I happen to know that large advertising firms have special people that do nothing but buy online advertising space. They`ll need demographics, etc...and since you will be new (without stats for traffic, etc) , I don`t know what their reaction will be, but you might call an advertising agency & ask to speak with the person who buys their online advertising space for their clients. If nothing else, they can probably offer some advice, but perhaps you`ll get some business from it too.
