Love Is the Killer App, How to win business and influence friends.

This book, written by Tim Sanders, Chief Solutions Officer at Yahoo!, is my all time favorite business book.

It`s a bit groovy in its vernacular, but once you get past that it really offers a wacky yet sensible approach to business book reading.

Sanders talks about sharing your knowledge, your network & your compassion. The result? You are seen as a lovecat, one of those outstanding people to whom everyone turns. As entrepreneurs, we can sure use this to our own successful advantage.

Let me know if you`ve read "Love Is the Killer App" or if you`re interested in reading together. I`m eager to get back to it again and would be delighted to take part in facilitating dialogue about it.

Joel - you big "lovecat" you - interesting ideas to ponder, and I will.

Now here`s the quirky truth - when I saw the title of this post "Love is the Killer App" - the first thing that popped into my head was Harry Potter. My 8 year old son got interested in the books a few months ago, and we`ve been plowing through them as a family. One of the key themes (and the defining moment of the "backstory") is that love is more powerful than all the magic in the world, even the strongest dark magic used by the most powerful evil wizard who has ever lived.

Who knows, maybe there`s a whole alternative universe of entrepreneurial wisdom buried in the Harry Potter series.

Joel - excellent book. Enjoyed it very much. I hope you find a following. Would be interesting to read the thread as people chime-in, chapter by chapter.

I`ve not read the book, but doesn`t the title seem a bit, I dunno...manipulative? It sounds sort of like that statement, "If you can get that sincerity thing down, you`ll really have the inside track with women!"

I`m not sure how sharing your connections and discussion would differ from what most people do ordinarily? Unless I`m wrong, and most people *don`t* share their thoughts and concepts about their business?

Hi Craig,

Nice statement & perfectly appropriate reaction to the book title & my very brief synopsis.

Here`s the good news ... Sanders actually makes a HUGE point about the sincerity issue. You must give without any expectation of return. You didn`t think I`d call this my favorite business book of all time unless it totally rocked, did you?

Joel,

Thanks so much for this posting.  I got the book and am about halfway through it.  It really has some great ideas and theories, not to mention a treasure trove of suggested additional reading.

I tend to read magazines and watch the news for my "knowledge" and now one of my goals is to read more BOOKS!

I`ll try and share more thoughts as my reading continues.... and I`d love to hear yours and the rest of the comunity`s as well.

Thanks again for the suggestion!

I guess what I`d like would be some exerpts and analysis of why a point in a book is a great point. Not all of us are going to read every book recommended by someone on a forum. But isn`t a forum a great place to say why a book is remarkable?

How about we have someone say, "Here`s an example of what`s in the book. I read it (quoting the exerpt in the post), and here`s what I think." And so forth?

We`ve had a couple of postings involving, "Wow! This was a fantastic book! It really changed my thinking! Go read this book!"

Okay....except I don`t have time to read every book in the world. I`d like to know why I should drop my other list of books, and pick up this particular (insert title) book. Y`know? It`d help....and it`s not the same as a "review."

A review is a synopsis of the basic point of the book, and whether or not the author sufficiently made and proved that point. It rarely takes quotes from the book, and mostly determines if the book was well written, has a good audience, successfully proves a point, and how well it was written.

We could use posts like this to bring out the specifics of how a book affected one person---the person making the post. :-) That`s my thought, anyway....
