I`m wondering if other members have written/emailed their elected officials lately, and if you`ve received any type of response. I`ve had an idea for a website dealing with the local economy, so 2 weeks ago I emailed our Governer, both US Senators, our local US Representative, as well as local state reps and senators and a couple of mayors to get ideas on interest and input.

So far, not a single one has responded. I realize that these people are busy and have a lot of ground to cover, but is this normal not to hear back within this time frame? Do they have staffers check email and determine what should be passed on and what shouldn`t? Or is it just a waiting game?

Maybe it`s their way of saying the idea sucks?

Another possibility is that the flood of mail flowing into their offices from voters who are enraged by the utter insanity of the current policies and decisions being made has created an avalanche. They may not be able to even find their desks under all the other mail.

It`s something to consider when wondering if the government can "help" the business economy.

I`m not sure they`d be getting much rage mail at all. I don`t think we`re representative of the US as a whole. The biggest banks and corporations are the ones getting paid off by the deal. Considering how interconnected commerce is, I think the businesses that said businesses work closest with will also support the policies. It`ll trickle down like so until you finally get to the tier of business that isn`t benefitting even vicariously from the policy. In the realm of the average citizen, you have a large population of desperate homeowners praying that the mortgage bailout applies to them. They`ll support this policy.

Who shouldn`t support the policy? Well, if this site is any indicator, small business entrepreneurs shouldn`t. I imagine people in good financial condition shouldn`t support it either. Corporations and banks not benefitting from the bailouts shouldn`t support it. They had a chance to step into the big leagues once the kingpins fell into bankruptcy and lost it by Deus ex machina from our government. It`s hardly fair at all.

Who of those who shouldn`t support the policy won`t? Not many. Most people don`t know better. I didn`t. The bitter and cynical part of me was always thinking that the government should let the bad companies fall, every one of them. However, I still figured the policy was for the best. I imagine most others are the same.

I don`t think our representatives are flooded in mail. If they`re ignoring your letter, I can`t imagine why.

I actually received a response today .... printed on state HOR stationary and signed by hand!

Unfortunately, either my comments/ideas to them were misinterpreted when they read it, or they just want to promote their accomplishments to me, according to their response.

Oh well ....

You should`ve proposed an idea that cost at least $5-million. Then they would`ve thought it applied to "the stimulus" of the economy. :-)
