Engraver,
Stop trying to sound smart... did you notice when I said. I don`t think this topic can relate to this topic... Please respond to my topic... it would be nice if you browsed therough the topics and responded to :How do you set a price.... Its psoted on the forum

Whats with the attitude? You made a comment about creating another forum topic. At the time that I responded to this, I hadn`t yet gotten into any of the other forum topics. All I asked is what the topic name was that you gave the new topic so that I could go directly to it.

"Stop trying to sound smart"  Not sure where that came from, but if you want information on incorporating issues (not wanting to come off as "sounding smart") but go to the SCORE website. They can hook you up with someone that can help you with just about any question you have.

Did I say somehting wrong?

No, nothing wrong, just a bad joke on my part I guess. Sorry if you took it the wrong way. A play on words dealing with the topic of porn and "unique position" struck me as funny.

LOL ok I got it.  I am still curious to hear what he has that is unique.  Personally I would like to see more movement in the industry towards the female/couple market sector.

My plan is to raise $50,000.00 to get the business started.  So I`m selling shares in the company.  The plan is to sell 50 shares of the company at obviously a $1,000.00 each.  So one person or fifty people.  It doesn`t matter to me.

I hope that within one year to buy back your shares (at face value of $1000.00 for each  share plus 8% interest) and be self sufficient.  But please, do not use the rent money or grocery money.  You can never tell with something like this.  But I really think I’ve got some very good ideas and that this can be successful and a lot of fun!!

Well i am going to attempt to steer the post back on topic and speak on what the gentleman originally stated.

I do agree the you shoot your self in the foot by asking others to invest in a protect that YOU have not invested in your self. maybe the better way would have been to ask to match up funds. 1 to 1.

And to speak on the nature of the post, I don`t think it was wrong or raunchy or any of that. The only thing he said was "adult videos" whats wrong with that? come from behind the picket fence were all grown folks here. Adult videos production is an extremely (really) profitable. I know because i used to work for one such company. After all the over head the bus pulled in 25k a month. That`s just "okay" as far as the adult film biz goes but most of us would be quite "okay" with that sort of salary. I would.

Here is the problem with your plan Georgieboy.

  1. The adult film market is super saturated with every spin and variation or scenario you can think of, its impossible to do ANYTHING new. which is what you will need to make consumers want to buy your videos. Its not the `90s when you could snap some pic of the wife and pop `em up on the net and make you house payment in a few weeks. (or buy a new one in some cases).
  2. Nowadays the legal pressures on the adult industry make it very hard for the little guys. unless you have a lawyer in you family you better start looking now. Do a Google search on "Acacia and adult video"  and also "2257 and adult" if the search results don`t scare you away how about the fact the any actor in you films will need to have their real name printed on any distributed copies on the content. Stills, Video, whatever.
  3. Your going to need a lot more than 50k to get a final product that does not look like some thing from America`s funniest... AND get it distributed widely enough that the demand for it make it worth the entire endeavor. (side note: look over seas. they seem to like American home video.) The overhead, or should i say, opportunity cost is a lot greater then you may think.

If i were you, I would take 4k go get a used CANNON GL, a MAC with a big monitor. a copy of FINALCUT Pro, and a Video editing for dummies from the book store. Then you and the misses have at it.....

I agree with OADESIGN. Just because he is interested in the porn industry doesn`t mean he is less of a business person or shold be frowned upon. It may offend some but porn is a big "business". My girlfriend works for Hustler in the office (works directly for Larry Flynt) & it is a business & very professional at that. So I would say. if you want to get into porn, go for it! There is a ton of money to be made as long as you have a detailed plan & you offer something unique or market it as such. That is the only market barrier I see. As for me, I have never seen one or will ;-)

My original comment wasn`t a judgement comment based on ethics or personal oppinion. From a strictly business standpoint, you have to know what audience that you are marketing to. Whether it is a customer, a client, or an investor, you have to know your market. Look at the majority of members in this group. Many in here are startups themselves and, if looking for an incestment opportunity, they are not going to invest in something that could possibly come back to haunt them and their business later, no would anyone want to make an investment in any venture knowing that the person asking for the investment is not investing anything himself, especially not knowing anything about the person.

Best of luck in your ventures, but you need to know your audience and also, need to be show that you believe in your venture so much that you are willing to put your money where your mouth is, not just someone elses.

Well, porn is a good money maker!

I would just wonder why you need money to start the business? You and your fiancee could do the first few films and sell them on the internet. All you need is a few bucks for a good quality camera and a website.

I know the porn industry is always frowned upon. But I think if adults need to use it for harmless reasons then go for it!

Let us know how it goes.

Cool, but you`re talking about a full-fledged running business with expansion problems. The OP is just talking about getting started?

You know more than I do about the subject. But, could`nt the OP test the waters by just doing a couple films and putting them out there at a break-even price? Just curious.
