www.teardropvideo.com

Business Concentration - Film (8mm/S8mm, 16mm (near-future)), Photo (Pictures/Slides) archival and transfer to DVD.
Business Objective - my aim is to assist in converting their existing `analogue` media to digital. I`m trying to be straight forward with my website to appeal quality and processing options for the customer. The idea of `packages` will hopefully alleviate the nickel and diming I see in some websites. It`s kind of `this is what you get for this price`.

Current marketing target - 35-55 year old and baby-boomers.

I assisted in the design with a web-developer friend by finding websites I liked and that felt comfortable to me.
I did the copy.

I`m light in the Search Engine Optimization/Strategies and looking for input in that area. Although, I have seen that topic in SUN forums and haven`t completed the research there, yet. Naturally, after I launched the website, I expected to be overwhelmed with requests (jus` kiddin`). So, SEO needs some tweaking.

To-Do List
Add `About Us` page - I`m not one for tooting my own horn but am looking at examples to seem big even though I/we are starting out small.

Add Testimonials to the website. These will be located on the left column of the pages. I have some to add and am contacting previous customers for their kind words.

Modify Samples. First label them Film Basic, Film Premium (sound)... Photo Basic, Photo Premium (sound)... Fun Project, Vette/Cycle Event, Home Movie Narration, College Musical... I have some more samples to add to give it a little more variety.
I have a question of samples placement. Should I leave all samples in one spot on each page or separate the film samples to the film page, photo samples to the sample page and the remaining samples to another page?
More Graphics - film frame examples and pics.

Thanks in advance.

A nice service... I haven`t checked to see if your pricing is at market for the service.

Ok, the website... a good start. For me the logo should be larger in relation to the header flash animation. I would also suggest the animation only play once rather than repeat over and over (or lengthen the play time). To be more in tune with the content/purpose of the site I`d use a short clip of the sample you have with the child walking around.

I`m not overy excited about using red for the links or the red bar  - I do not think it goes with the "look" of the site.

Content: You have some good information on the home page about why to convert images to digital. But you`re missing a call to action.  I suggest mkaing bullets out of the reasons (with links to the detail) and adding some "selling" content to the home page.

A simple explanation of how this works (even a diagram) on the home page will help people understand the process rather than reading the "film" link etc. I can imaging a lot of options for communicating your marketing message. A graphic of old photos transformed to a new dvd.

The process for ordering needs to be more user friendly. Rather than printing and completing the form, an online form that can be printed would be better. Your terms of service, "complete satisfaction" quarantee, shiping terms, etc all need to be spelled out on the site.  What about "insurance" for items lost durring shipping?

SEO: You`ll need to determine your targeted keywords/phrases. Each web page should have a unique title and page description. Then work those keywords into the content of each page and the links.

Hi FilmGuy,

I would highly recommend Kristine Wirth, SEO Expert.  She has a forum on Ryze.com and it is very active.  She has been a speaker for my group and is a regularly scheduled SEO speaker on Networking For Her, among other sites.

Here is Kristine`s web page on WAHM with pricing and comprehensive packages.

Hi FilmGuy :-)
Fist, you have very few graphic images on your main page (that`s where I started). Each one of them offers you SEO help in the "alt text=" tag. People don`t realize how easy it is to promote your business by having Google Images pick up on your site through those short descriptions.

Put onto the site some "aw shucks" examples of analog media you`ve converted, then use the tags to fill in key phrases.

Secondly, you have a whole lot of bolded points, none of which come anywhere close to "key phrase" information. When an engine crawls you for relevancy, it`s going to look at Heading tags (h1, h2, h3), and then bolded text. It`ll "assume" that you`ve used the heading and bolding to highlight the Most Important content on your site. Have you done this? I don`t see it.

What key phrases have you decided most apply to your business? In other words, if I were going to a blank Google search page---the start point---what would I type into the query line?

It`s Thursday, I`m going to a family reunion in three months. I have a bunch of old pictures and was thinking it`d be fun to put some kind of DVD together. What would I likely type into Google?

List 30 key phrases, with 10 being The Most Important. Then make sure you have at least 15 occurrences of the top 3 on your pages. Each page can focus on a different "master key phrase" (an SEO "theme").

Content shouldn`t be more than 300-400 words on each page, and should both explain what you`re doing on that page, but also "push" the theme strongly for that page.

Good points and questions.

I`m out for a few days, I`ll respond later next week and see if I can work these suggestions in.

I think that the reasoning for archiving video is an emotional one, most of the time ... and the look and feel of your site completely does not tap into that.
The red bar is jarring instead of inviting. The site is whitewashed (lacking in appropriate contrast, lacking in emphasis of the right points) and forgettable. Your logo is too small and not fitting into the site design very well. That white box is designed for a vertical logo and you have a horizontal one.

The animation does nothing for me.

The text is too small, and there`s not enough font hierarchy.

Who is your target market here?

Keywording Exercise

Sorry ... I know this sounds a little mean. I like the name and I like the services - I just think you could market it a lot better.

Thanks again for the input. I`ll go over the advice with my web-developer and see what we can come up with.
