Loren, that is very interesting I will definitely check it out.  I am finding most carts I have looked at seem to have their niche.  I am also finding, careful selection is very important.  All the variations seem to explain why there are so many companies that seem to make their own.   I am wondering if many are having a hard time finding the best fit among all the off-the-shelf solutions, and they give up and hire programmers.

Graham,  thanks!  I can definitely use this info.  I am beginning to see a very wide spread use of the free cart systems as I am researching this subject.  It makes me wonder if people thinking about what they will do if the group or company that creates the cart goes out of business or loses interest.  It is a strange market.
