Hello!  I don`t know, maybe I`m asking this wrong, but what I`m looking for is someone to teach me, guide me, help me learn.

I`m venturing out, on my own.  I`ve put in my notice at work, and that lasts through the end of next week.  I realize I might be asking someone to teach me to do something they`re doing, in effect, creating more "competition", but I figure the worst that can happen is for everyone to say no. ;)

This would be a position I`d be willing to compensate someone for as well.

Please feel free to email me as well as reply here, email is sleap13@adelphia.net

Thanks!
Shawn

Hi:  First of all, let me say that I am in the same boat that you are. I have a website and I am trying to make money with it, but I am not doing so well yet.

Everyone can start a website; for less than $100 you can be online at a good website host.  Most have free editing software - so anyone can do it. Check out my website and see what I am talking about.at http://www.wholesalemap.com

I belong to several affiliate programs that you can find out about on my website. and I utilize Google adsense. And I work on it every day. What I do on my website is give away information about wholesale sources and hope that the affiliate programs and Google make me money.  I think it is a good idea.

The problem is getting traffic to your site! I have tried google adwords (that is expensive), msn adcenter (not as expensive, but not as much traffic as google).and writing articles.

If you are interested in selling on ebay, check out my website for dropshippers ( a dropshipper sends the item to the buyer after you sell it and you make a profit) and wholesalers.

If anyone else has any ideas about traffic, I would like to know them as well.

Hope this helps.

Paul

Hello Shawn,

Here`s a link to a great book http://perrymarshall.com/  Perry Marshall`s Definitive Guide to Google Adwords.

I hope this helps.  I just ordered it but it has been recommended by someone I trust.

Thanks! Actually, I think I have that book, bought it a while back... My problem is I don`t think I understand the generalities of it enough to really know even what questions to ask of someone... or to maybe even understand what`s being said in the book. *shrug*

Shawn, as to whether or not you are competition, depends on what business you are in  My experience with Google has been up and down. I have had an account with them for almost 2 years now, recommended to me by a mentor selling the same product I do.  At first, the amount of business I attracted was fantastic, but now I see more and more of the `big boys` competing and quite frankly its all about budget and the page position your ad occupies. I examing my content and try to make improvements all the time. I find that Google support assistance can be a little vague as to what can actually help make your ads a success. My advise to you is find someone in a similar line of business as you who web advertizes and find out what they budget versus the return percentage, in my line of business this amount was about 10-12% of expected returns.

I`ve been marketing online with Google and Yahoo`s affiliate programs and have been successful.

I am interested in teaching those about Google and Yahoo for a fee.  If you can afford 7,500 up front, I`ll teach you to how to make 30-40K per year.

I`ll be more than happy to show my stats from Google and Yahoo if you are a serious advertiser and interested in learning more.

Thanks.

I`m starting to get better at the Adwords/Adsense and affiliate marketing game.  By no means am I getting rich, but it is improving over time, which is all I can ask.  Here are some general tips and if you ask questions I`ll try to provide more information if I can:

  • Find a way to keep your Adwords purchases cheap:  This means the page you point to must be very specific to the keyphrase you are targetting in your ad.  For example, when I create a good blog entry I`ll create an ad group specifically to target what that entry is about.  I am happy if I am buying clicks under 5 cents.
  • Find a way to show valuable Adsense advertisements on your site: It`s not hard to write a page about valuable topics, but it is difficult to write a page about valuable topics that you drive traffic to cheaply.  Let`s say you blog about ice cubes.  Perhaps readers of that will be interested in party planning, air conditioning, fridges and so on.  Look for strong correlations between topics and promote the cheap one while selling the ads or affiliate products for the expensive one.
  • Unless you are promoting a spur of the moment brand purchase, you have to presell your reader in some way to get good affiliate sales.  It`s easiest if you have used the product and can inspire the user and give some of the main features that were important to you.  Using a sily example again, ice cubes will make you cool.  Get real square ice cubes not rounded ones.  Bigger cubes make you cooler!  I like product X ice cube makers.

I hope that gives you some pointers.  It is as generic as can be, but while I am working on building my directory I am blogging and so forth and trying to get better at doing these things.  Oh, and there are forums specifically dedicated to learning these things, such as Digital Point, that you may want to sign up for.

Good luck!

Also ceck out looksmart and their pay per click search program, so far it is working well for me and much cheaper than Google or YPN (but their reporting is much weaker)
