Has anyone read Liseys Story by Stephen King?

I`ve always been an avid King reader, and was very excited when I noticed his new book at the library.  But I can`t get into it at all!  Struggled to read about 60 pages or so and finally just gave up and put it down; for some reason this book just fails to capture my attention.  Maybe its because there isn`t a whole lot happening; I can`t put my finger on what it is but the style just seems different somehow from the normal King story telling.

On the other hand, the first time I tried reading The Dark Tower, I gave up on it as well.  I didn`t revisit it until years later after reading The Little Sisters of Eluria - and once I finished the whole series, it ended up being one of my favorite books of all time.

So maybe I`m missing something with Liseys Story as well, or it`s just one of those books that starts slow?  Is it worth another try?

I was a fan of King`s, reading everything that came out. Then I got away from reading in general until recently. Scouting the library, I picked up "Bag of Bones."

What struck me was that it seemed to go nowhere. I too found myself wandering, not very interested, and comparing it to long-ago books like "Christine." But, with nothing else to do, I kept reading.

About halfway through, the book started to pick up. Then, given ALL the set up and preliminary material, it began to come together with some real drama toward the end.

So I wonder if this is just a basic change in writing style. People used to say that King was a "formula" writer, but what I noticed was that he seemed to write along, having fun, getting into whatever his imagination created. Then, as if he suddenly remembered he had a deadline, he`d appear to scramble at the end for an ending.

I don`t know what`s particularly changed, other than his accident a few years back. But I didn`t take any more of his books out of the library, mostly because I`m not in the mood to spend that long getting the point of the story. At least not right now. Maybe later.

I enjoyed the Bag of Bones while reading it, but today I couldn`t tell you what it was about to save my life, so it must not have been all that great. 

I reccomend The Cell from King`s more recent works - there is instant action, from Page 1!

The Dark Tower is still the best IMO, but it`s best taken as a whole and so requires a long time commitment (7 huge books, and the first one starts off pretty slow too).

"Bag of Bones" was about the black blues singer who had the author`s summer house originally. The author is in writer`s block due to his wife (Jo) dying one afternoon. Over time, he finds out the singer was raped and moided. Etc.

I read the first two Dark Tower books, then got out of reading for a long time. Now that I`m back into it, I`ll check the series again on your recommendation. :-) Hell, if I read all 12 books of the left-behind series, I can handle a mere 7 books!
