I started reading the essay that Canadiasian mentioned. He`s right. It is well worth reading. In fact I`ll likely save it on my iPAQ so I can read it often.

There`s been no activity on this thread since May. Why bring it up now? Well, thank you Joel for bringing it up, if for no other reason than so I could read this essay. I happen to believe it`s possible to do great work in any business.
