I am from Kansas and would like to start a home based food packaging company. Can anyone tell me where I would go to find out the licensing and insurance requirements that I would need?

Thanks so much,

Pam

We have a page on our website that includes links to resources for starting a business in Kansas. That should help you with state licensing requirements. The FDA is likely to be your first stop for national food-related licensing requirements. You will need to consult with a local commercial insurance carrier for business insurance, but you should start with the company that writes your homeowners insurance since you are starting from home.

Good Luck!

@Poneal...are you processing the food products too. You might want to visit http://homebasedbaking.com. It has a variety of resources for home food processors, bakers, jams, jellies, hot sauce and barbecue sauce makers, candy makers. Check out the live chat on Monday and speak with one of the reps.
