What would you do for your business with this kind of money? Anything at all? Or would you use it for something in your life plan? Bail money?

I would use it to start my dream business!!!  I would be able to afford the products to sell, the marketing and advertising to get the word out, and not have to worry about putting my personal life on the line...like my marriage, my kids, my life.  So in essence, in responding to your question, I am using "The Secret" to ask, answer and I will receive.  I truly believe that my vision will happen.  Thank you for your post!

How about getting a little more specific.

What would your priorities be and in what order.

How would this infusion of cash prevent putting your personal life on the line?

What is your vision, and how would you make it happen?

Ric,

Great questions!  I do tend to be vague in my answers.  My priorities have always been my family first, therefore the vision of owning and running our dream business has to coincide with our family plan and not the other way around.  I don`t see having a business as being put on the line, we all have to work and make accomodations for that anyway, but using our home as collateral on a business loan would put strain on the whole family.  Currently, I am learning how a party plan business works while making money towards our dream business, also a direct selling party plan business which happens to be part of my business plan and that for now is how I will make it happen.  Am I confusing you more?  I`d get more specific about the business plan, though I don`t want to give away the specifics because I am very protective of our baby plan.    Lumberjill

I started thinking about this very question yesterday except on a smaller scale. My thought was, what if I raised $20K, how would I use it. Although I am still working on the exact plan dollar for dollar I can probably sum it up a little.

With $100,000 I would do the following:
Month 1-6
1. Put $20K in an Edward Jones investment account.
2. Invest $15K in Prosper.
3. Use $10K to develop the current web properties that I own.
4. Put the other $60K in a high yield business account ( need to keep liquid assets)
5. Keep my current job.

After 6 months:
I would evaluate the progression of the web properties and determine which direction to go. If they were gaining users and generating cash flow then I would put up to $10K more into the sites.

After 1 year:
Analyze revenue streams from investment accounts and the web properties. Add another non-standard investment to the mix and move accordingly.

Wow.

Well, first of all, that kind of money is a lot for my type of business. I mean, I invest in my business in a much smaller scale, so it would be hard for me to imagine that kind of influx.

Honestly, if I had that kind of cash, I would probably make some kind of foundation to use the money to provide free services to deserving organizations. We`ll call it financial aid for webdev and marketing. So if you were a new business or nonprofit, you could apply for a grant from the foundation just like you would apply for a loan or grant anywhere ... but instead of getting the money, you would have all your web and marketing needs provided for. That way I can do the things that I love but still provide paychecks for my employees!

Is that totally the dumbest idea anyone has ever heard of?

nhgnikole,

I think it would be really cool to have a non-profit made to educate people who want to start and maintain web businesses and sites. As long as someone covers the cost.

A person did wire that kind of money into my account, for some design/IP work.  That actually was just a downpayment to a megabucks contract.

I finished the job, provided the two working and qualified prototypes.  The other party lost its own contract due to mismanagement of project.  The balance didn`t get paid.  Now we`re in litigation.

The money does help me get other prototypes for a different project working.  Now I need to raise even more money for commercialization.  What can I say.  I`m in hi-tech products and that needs a great deal of working capital.  The tooling cost alone is many $100K.

Sometimes I think why not get into service business, or ad business like Google.  Yes, Google makes pennies at a time, but over millions of people and companies.

The way I see it, set up a agregate web site for a specific subject, such as home DYI.  Write articles about home DIY to drive traffic to the site.  Get Google to place Adword and collect pennies at a time from visitors to yout site.  Everything is low key: no hard selling, no negotiation, no haggling.  Basically what you`ll be selling is greed for power, money, art, knowledge etc...

Ric,

I would invest the whole sum in high-yeild investment funds. The power and magic of compound interest would my friend and this sum would turn into a nice fallback for a few years down the road.

Send the check to .....
