You should also check out Zopa - it`s also an exchange where entrepreneurs can get funds by borrowing from other people.

I`ve done a lot of comparison between Zopa and Prosper (and know a lot of Prosper lenders) and, if you ask me, Prosper is a bad deal for borrowers unless you have a horrible credit history- if you want money you have hundreds of investors emailing you with questions and they are not so nice about it.

I hear Zopa is launching in the US soon. I`d rather get a loan from Zopa, but that`s just me :)

Understood alphading - as you mentioned Zopa is UK-focused at this time, so we chose to start the experiment with Prosper.  We`ll obviously adjust as necessary, but hopefully this will work for some of our community members!

Quick update on the StartupNation Prosper group - we`ve increased to 24 members at this time, and our first intrepid entrepreneur has created a loan request that I hope you`ll review and consider.

The request comes from none other than Brandi Ramos, one of our eBay expert bloggers!  Brandi is seeking capital to make a significant inventory purchase for her highly successful eBay store - given her past success, chances are this is a great bet.

You can review Brandi`s request here -- be sure to join the StartupNation group!

As a professional services provider to early stage companies - I hope that prosper will be successful because we see a lot of entrepreneurs who need a "relatively" small amount of capital to move forward.

However, we also see many who under estimate the amount of capital required to achieve their objectives. Since prosper is based on personal credit - I "encourage" all of you entrepreneurs to be sure that you are getting enough capital. We see to many "desperate" situations created not because they couldn`t get the capital but because they didn`t ask for enough. If you’re new to this, seek help from a professional.

Nothing is worse than a bridge built half way across the river.

Hey, I hear a lot about investers and business loans, but I`m really new to this. I`m worried about borrowing, though I "REALLY" need to, when my business is nothing more than odd jobs right now. I`d like to get established first, but one seems to rely upon the other.  I just need good advice, please help!

My profile will tell more.  E-mail me if you`d like, I can really use some help.

-------------------------

I can really use some help, please feel free to offer "ANY" advice. I`d rather go beyond the minimum requirements so I can step up to a LLC when the time is right. I`m on a non-existent/shoestring budget, getting a business loan at this point is proving difficult. I`m looking forward to hearing from anyone who`s been through this. Some of you have been a big help, please keep it up.

Ok how about a website that deals with personal loan amounts slightly larger? I need around 50K to start up my business (should be a million dollar company by third year)... Thanks all!

Really interesting thread!  Love the Prosper idea.  What I`m about to add here is way outside of what Prosper is setup to help with, looking for guidance on this mainly, any advice would be great!

My busines partner and I have a friend whos` website business nets over $45k/mo. For a couple reasons that have nothing to do with his business, he`s ready to move on (he`s a very young kid...I can explain more if we get the chance to talk).

So, my partner and I have put together a written plan and presentation for this business - we are supremely confident we can triple the net monthly income within 12 months. We are looking for a hand`s off investor to come in and provide the sales price (a little more than 3X annual net profits) in exchange for 49% ownership equity, and a 60% monthly net profits payout. (Obv other details involved, but that`ll give you a good handle on what we`re looking for).

Does anyone here know of someone liquid enough and in the market for a hand`s off situation?

Thanks in advance
