I`m not a lawyer, nor am I a business consultant. I`ve just lived a weird life and done a lot of different things.

My understanding is that one of the main reasons to form a corporation is to protect what you personally own in case of a lawsuit.

The best thing to do would be to pay the relatively minor fee to a good attorney. Get real, current legal advice from a human being. You`ll want to be able to ask questions based on each answer you have, in a real conversation.

:-) One thing I`ve learned for sure is that it`s WELL worth the $150 or thereabouts to get a basic consultation with an attorney.

The odds are that if you make yourself an independent contractor, having your client send you a 1099 form, you`ll be fine. But...! The attorney will bring up all sorts of possibilities, tailored to your specific situation, and give you a much wider perspective.

Point being it`s always best to have a lot of information than only one or two choices. It`s not that expensive, and you`re not hiring an attorney on retainer.

Actually, thinking about it, I`ll bet you`d get exactly the answer to your question (above) by consulting with a tax accountant.

consider an LLC - pay a lawyer.  Open up yellow pages to attorney section, pick one that practices in business law.  If you truly can`t decide which attorney to pick, pick the one with the most letters in his or her last name.
