Hello everyone-

 

I'm brand new here and in business in general. I currently have a sole proprietorship but I know that is not the best business structure for me. I'm looking for a lawyer that can help me make a decision in addition to an accountant that specialize in small businesses.

 

I live in NYC. Do any of you have recommendations or advice for finding a competent advisor?

I'm not an attorney in New York, but I used to practice here in Florida. You are right about staying a sole proprietorship, you are subject to total liability for your business. I'd recommend you consider becoming a single member LLC. It's like being a SP with the limited liability protection.
