Ah Hah!! THERE`s your Tagline!!
A New Sensation in Cheese!

That`s been my whole problem with this product and site, it`s almost like fooling the reader-customer. But if you take this tagline and build outward, changing your site content to focus on the new sensation in cheese, and remove "cheesecake," then I think you`ll get more online orders. That`ll help build your confidence, which`ll get you stronger reactions when you go to local area places. In my opinion. :-)

Thanks for the extra information -- Ben Franklin once said "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

If the wholesale pitches aren`t going anywhere, it`s time to take a good, hard, objective look at your options. Could you try focusing your efforts elsewhere with better results? Perhaps selling them to small, local coffee shops or even bookstores that sell small snacks?

Additionally, you may want to re-assess your supply chain and determine if you can drive your production costs down further. This certainly isn`t rocket science, but it`s all too common that entrepreneurs spend more time pricing the product than they spend on actually reducing the cost to produce it.

If you`d like, feel free to email me at paul@resultsjunkies.com and let`s talk in private about where the prices currently are, what the margins look like and what your sales pitch looks like. I`m sure we can pull some ideas together on how to move forward.

Craig,

I am so thrilled that you like the `tag line`.  I have agonized over it and it hit me in the shower.  I put it out there hoping for some feedback and not expecting it to go over well but so far many more people have liked it, especially those that never liked cheesecake.

Paul,
I will be in touch, I am taking the rest of the weekend off with my family and will get back on it on Mon.

The problem I`ve been having with this product is the confusion over "cheescake." The "A New Sensation in Cheese" helps to focus the mind on the cheese, not the cake, or cheesecake. It gets me thinking, "hmm...this is a cheese product."

I don`t like being led to believe something is one thing, only to find out it`s a different thing. But "sensation in cheese" doesn`t actually lead me anywhere. It gets me intrigued. After all, how many new ways can there be cheese?

The key here is to open a door and lead the casual browsing public into the site. Once they`re through the door, so to speak, they`ll be more likely to hang around and find out the answer to the mystery. At that point, if you say it`s similar to cheesecake, then fine.

Building interest begins with a question or mystery, which then has a solution. That solution then leads to another question or mystery, also then having a solution. Read any Nora Roberts book, and watch what happens near the end of the right-hand pages. In less than 3 pages, there`ll always be a small mystery; just enough that you want to turn the page....just to see the answer.

For example, someone is driving and they suddenly have a flat tire. They`re irritated, annoyed, and on a schedule. They`re not sure if they have a spare in the trunk.....and that`s the end of the page. How many people will turn to the next page only to see, "Do they have a spare tire?" :-D

I like the tagline ideas.  I also feel you should get away from the word “cake” because your product is a really good quiche like appetizer rather than a desert.  I think the more you gravitate towards cheese and away from cake, the better.  Maybe you should come up with a name of its own that loses the cheesecake wording totally along with a new tagline.

This reminds me of a new gym I now use that is called PTO which stands for Personal Training Only, the business name they chose.  The problem is that it is both a gym and a place to get a trainer, if you need one.  They are trying to promote the facilities to everyone and  not just those wanting a personal trainer.  In fact, they need everyone to keep the business afloat and expand their business.  But they are stuggling.  I feel their name is keeping people from coming to their gym because they think they cannot just go there to workout.  They have a great gym (or product) too.  I think that may be your issue too when it comes to sales.  You don’t want to fight your own product name when selling it

I do have a question now that I went to your site and I am getting hungry again!  Do you know or publish the nutritional information about your product anywhere?  That might be good to add to your site if it does not contain trans fat.

At least that is my thoughts.

A substantial part of our business is wholesale also.  (We do retail also.)  I have noticed the same trend for wholesale. It was really frustrating at first, but once I started a monthly wholesale promotion, it picked up quickly.  People love feeling like they are getting something for free, and the same holds true for wholesale buyers.  The best part is it doesn`t have to be much to be really effective.

Our most popular promotion cost me under $2 in giveaways per order and brought in thousands.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reassurances that we are not alone in this struggle.
I hear that it is just they way it works, but I for one am ready for a change.
I will see what ideas we can come up with for incentives/promotions.

Amy, hang in there, I can feel your passion in your product, you will find your way!

I see where the problem in selling to retail might be for you, they must have freezers so this probably rules out most of your gift/novelty store types. Most of the higher end gourmet food stores have freezers, have you been able to market to many of them? I think your products would be fantastic in Harry and David, for instance, you`ve probably already gone this route, but I can see this on their shelves!!! How great would that be!

In any case, we have great luck with our food products at trade shows, where we can do sampling. We pick up customers which purchase via our website and also have gotten most all of our wholesale accounts via these shows. We have stores in 6 states carrying our products now.

One of the really nice shows we participated in was the Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show. I think you would be a fantastic fit for this and the crowds would love you. Customer were from both the consumer and retail business field. Higher dollar persons with money to spend, all interested in food. Check out their site, they host a show in Norfolk, VA; Atlanta, GA and Washington DC. We participated in the Washington DC show and had a marvelous time. I have never had a line at my booth before that I kept praying I would see the end to, it went around the corner and down the next aisle. People just lined up to try and buy the product. We are still reaping the rewards in internet sales from the show. Great people to work with, their site is http://www.metrocooking.com/.

I hope this helps, DO NOT GIVE UP!!!

P.S. They had freezers on site for storage and there was room in the booth for a small one to keep stocked! GOOD LUCK!

There are several tips that can help your company website. The website is good.

1. You have news (blog) on your site, but no rss. You would not believe how many more users you will get to your site offering rss, plus their are lots of applications that you can use with your blog to further promote.

2. Weak title tag. You have Savory Secret sure its your company name (nothing is wrong with it),but the title is what search engines lists you and when people see Savory Secret they wonder what it is, so say Savory Secret-what my company does/is here and what we sell. You have very limited keywords and no link backs.

3. You should be tracking your traffic, do you know where you are getting your visitors from.

4. Put the product for sale higher your site , blends with the article.

These are some tips. I also recommend making your content more clear because I visited your site and its hard to understand what exactly you provide. I know its cheese but what do you mean by non dessert cheese cake and then the product I see you selling is crackers. A lot of your other products for sale are hidden in what appears to be links, I wouldn`t even know you are selling anything else but the crackers.

Also I thought you were only an online store, but I see you sale in some retail stores. Wholesalers love when you send them business, so make a locater on your site so people can find it in their town. Later on you are going to want to figure out if you are really into it for the wholesale accounts or you just want to retail it, because its terrible when you are compete with your on wholesalers and you can offer a better price on your site. The internet is power.

Good luck with your company, don`t stress its hard out there.
