My husband operates a single member LLC currently. It is a construction/welding business with no employees, just him. Together, but under the same LLC we also make/sell metal garden decor and other items. I kind of want to have a seperate name for the garden decor line of the business that relates better and is more general so we can expand it to a wider variety of items. I know we can do that anyways but I want the name to be more fitting if we do.
I spoke to our accountant whose suggestion was a husband/wife joint venture seperate from the LLC. I would like to be a part of it (owner) since I do a lot of the work but I want it to be connected to the LLC because it has already began building its brand under that name.
Does it make sense for the LLC to have a DBA and I possibly become an owner of the LLC or is it better to start over with a seperate entity? It's more important to me that it stay connected to the LLC than it is for me to be an owner, but do I need to be one if I'm the person creating a lot of the items and doing all the marketing, etc?
I can also welcome the suggestion that I let go of the idea of a new name and just stick with what we already have going.
Thanks so much for any suggestions!
