I am confused BrandAlchemy...I have not only gotten but I feel given advice on MANY subjects on these forums...and I think most of the people here could say the same thing. Do you create friendships and potential swap type situations here!? YES...of course you do...that is what we in business call NETWORKING! I go to Chamber of Commerce meetings in my area for the EXACT same reason...to meet with like-minded potential business associates and partners who can either offer me something or who I can offer something to! Online is nice...I dont have to spend gas money getting to a meeting...not to mention...my networking has now gone GLOBAL because of this very site instead of strictly businesses and business people in my area.

I guess my confusion is this...What exactly are you looking to get out of a community such as this one here at SuN, if networking is not your goal!?

I think maybe you should read more of the forum threads than just the Coffee Talk area if you feel that information and knowledge is not being shared. What about the blogs, the community podcasts, the articles, the information area....did you skip over all that!? I am very confused by your response.

Well said SolidGrnd. I joined SuN about two weeks ago. I have been selling my baskets for two years now, but recently decided to leave my full time job and concentrate on my baskets. I am actually just getting started in a business sense. Anyway, Even if I don`t reply to a post, I`ve read many of them and the help has been invaluable. But through it all we have to understand we are people, who need some encouragement, a pat on the back,or a shoulder to cry on, whether it be personable, or business. If some of you don`t want the chit-chat, look through the other areas of SuN`s website. They are full of information to help your business grow.

I am here to announce a revolution getting under way in science and technology.

See here: Before the Revolution

I had quite an instructive experience, recently. I was chatting with a nice gent who`s based in London and who works in business technology.

I sent him a copy of a recent piece of mine, an invited paper for a series on "Men Who Made a New Science," having to do with my work on the quantum basis of mind & brain. He was puzzled as to why I sent it, which perplexed me in turn.

I replied that, since he had an interest in technology, that perhaps this new realm of inquiry might also interest him. He then wanted to know whether I thought the work had technological implications.

I was floored. My work has directly to do with quantum mechanics, which has given us lasers, microchips and nuclear energy. I wrote back, explaining how all of science rests on physics and all of technology, too. So that, when the foundations of physics shift, so too with all the rest of the structure built upon it -- i.e., all of science and technology.

He answered by way of a stunned silence. But since then, all sorts of high powered financial and tech interests have been dropping by to visit my web site, including the biggest names in the biz.

Quanta & Consciousness

Well...  I`ve been a tech geek since infancy. I have always known that science and technology are joined at the hip. But it got me to thinking how, when they first put GPS satellites into orbit, they had to convince the engineers to correct for relativistic changes in the satellites` clocks. Engineers! Apparently, they thought relativity was just some fancy nonsense having no bearing on the real world!

My mistake was a basic one. I assumed that what was obvious to me was likewise plain as day to everyone else. (Doh!)

Of course, this is all so new, and so "out there," that many people understandably wonder whether there`s anything in it. Happily, the AAAI & Stanford U are hosting a symposium on this stuff later this month, so it seems we`ve gone mainstream.

Now THIS is the kind of intelligent post I`ve been looking for! Talk about `The Power of Attraction`! A guy who actually embraces Quantum Physics! This is good stuff.

From dips to quantum physics, all in one page of SuN forum posts. Fascinating.

Back to the `how do I network`, yes, I am quite familiar with the concept. I am here to learn about the relevant startup issues we all face, and SuN can be helpful for that kind of information. I just wish I saw more correct information from more seasoned business owners.

I don`t know how those concepts are confusing to you, Leah.

I`m really sorry if our businesses bore you. Not! True, they`re not sexy like quantum physics. Just plain old ordinary things that real people buy every day, like cookies and dip.

I learned a long time ago that you can`t please an angry person. No matter what you do they`ll still be angry.

I`m not aware of any "party line" waiting to be towed. I have friends on SUN that are more conservative than me and some that are more liberal than me. All are welcome here. Some are sharp, some still need some sharpening. All are welcome here.

I find it interesting that in one sentence you say you`re looking for "like-minded" people and in another sentence complain because someone "unique" doesn`t "fit in." I got news for you. It`s not the uniqueness that turns people off, it`s the anger. An employee has to work with whomever else the boss chooses to employ. One of the benefits of entrepreneurship is that you don`t have to put up with people you don`t wish to work with.

It sounds like you`ve heard it all before and to no avail, so I`ll apply my time and thoughts to building my simple, even boring, cookie business. I`ll spend as much time as I can afford on StartupNation with a community of people who are just like me in at least one respect. We all have the desire to improve our lives, our futures and our world by building our own business.

To that I would like to add that the name of the community is STARTUP Nation...not Seasoned Entreprenuers Nation. True...you will find some seasoned business owners here...as a matter of fact...there are quite a few I have met and they give fantastic advice and information...but the name of the site is STARTUP for a reason. This is a place for new entreprenuers to come to get help, advice, support, and information about STARTING UP their own businesses. Not to mention networking with other entreprenuers...regardless of their experience. THAT is where my confusion regarding your comments comes in. I am confused as to what community you think you are a part of here at Startup Nation!?

I enjoy quantum physics, microbiology, metaphysics, philosphy, politics and the like...but I am here about entreprenuerial endeavors...and those things might come up in conversations with people who I have gotten to know through this site...but I prefer to stick to the topics at hand. If you prefer to discuss those things...maybe you should start a thread regarding them and discuss them. The business of business is what we tend to talk about on the majority of the other threads here (minus those in the coffe talk area)...regardless of how small, large, or interesting someone`s business may be!

Hi Brad, I have been stressing on this post for days, and I get the impression you think we are a bunch of morons. By the way most of us aren`t rocket scientists or brain surgeons. We are small business owners trying to get questions answered by like minded people. So now tell me what have you posted that will help me in my business? Who do I market to? and how? What`s the best way to deal with an angry client? How should I handle my finances? Should I hire a bookkeeper? When I write a proposal, what do I need to know? What do I do now that the client turned down my proposal? (Actually that happened this week to me.) Not because they didn`t like my product (actually they loved it), but I couldn`t meet their budget. I went to college and failed to take business classes. Funny, I should have, because at that time I was looking into opening a board and care for the elderly. I took classes mainly on the care of them, not how much I should charge them or how much money could I make. I posted a question on weather. The reason I posted this was 1. To start a conversation and meet the people here at SuN, but also I wanted to know how the weather affected other`s bussinesses. See I live in sunny CA. We don`t have to put up with snow or ice. But we do put up with higher gas prices, higher taxes, traffic, among other things, and somehow it is all related to our weather. People have asked me why I don`t sell my house and move to a place that isn`t so expensive. See, I grew up here and this, I guess, is where I want to stay. If  I sell my house (which is paid for, by the way) I could never afford to move back. Sorry that`s personal and not business related. O.K. I`m done. I actually feel better . I`ve decided to take a couple of days off from SuN, so I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Well, thank you, kindly!  As Mark Twain said, "I can go for a month on a compliment."

"True, they`re not sexy like quantum physics."

Sexy?! Why does no one tell me these things? Once again, life plays a cruel trick on Brian.

Thus emboldened, I`m going to go splash on some Old Spice and get a jump on St. Patrick`s.
