I really love language. If they hadn`t invented it already, somebody would`ve complained!

Anyway, I ran across yet another (new, for me) Yogiism the other day:
You`d better cut that pizza into 4 pieces; I`m not hungry enough to eat 8.

Yogi Berra was famous for saying stuff like that, without even trying. So I went looking, and ran into other famous people who`ve said really strange things that somehow, make sense. Another fella, a man after my own heart, is David Farber.
Nobody`s going to put his neck out on a limb.

It`s a kind of dyslexia, I think, where you sort of hear with an astigmatism. I know it happens to me a lot, where I`ll just be wandering through life and see a sign or hear something on the radio that sounds....odd. If I think about it, I realize it probably was my own brain that was odd, not the original.

My latest was seeing a sign: "Presbyterian crossing," and later realizing it must have been "Pedestrian crossing." I hadn`t realized, though, how many other people end up with this kind of surreal view of life.

Rich posted on favorite Latin phrases, and I was wondering if people have other quotes that stick in their mind? :-) Maybe in English, though.

You can observe a lot by just watching. -- Yogi Berra
[It`s] time for the human race to enter the solar system. -- Dan Quayle

My favs:

"This is like deja vu all over again."
"You`ve got to be very careful if you don`t know where you`re going, because you might not get there."
"You should always go to other people`s funerals; otherwise, they won`t come to yours."

And this is my personal motto:
"I take a two hour nap, from one o`clock to four."

Ah...thanks for the link. I didn`t have a TV for a number of years, right when SNL got started, so I missed a whole lot of Cull`Chuh. :-) But I`m catching up. (I think I`m gonna rent "Jaws," `cause I heard that`s supposed to be a good movie.)

There`s a difference between an -ism and good humor, though. Yogiisms are based on a style (problem?) of logic. They`ve entered the language on the basis that many people who aren`t trying to be funny end up making these communication mistakes.

On the other hand, there`s so much humor in the world that it`s pretty hard to go through a week without at least 1 really good belly laugh! I used to think it was gas, but then realized it was just laughing. (When I was a baby, I totally remember laughing, and hearing the adults around me saying it was gas, though.)
