I've been a lurker for quite a while, but this is my first post and hope some of you might have some experience in this area.  I've been in business for a couple of years with limited success but believe it's about to really take off.  However, before that can happen I need to have more space for my business.  I have the opportunity to lease the space next door but need more capital to do so.

My business creates unique home decore from "junk".  In addition to selling these items at sale events at my place of business, I conduct classes/workshops, and have gone on several speaking engagements and have many more booked for the upcoming year.  I also have a website and blog.

I would like to approach a tool company (or something similar) about promoting their products at these occasions.  Mostly directed towards women, (a largely untapped market for tools)  I would not only INTRODUCE them to the world of power tools, but help them to feel comfortable and excited about using their tools to create awesome things.  Yes, I am a women myself, but I could probably saw circles around most on this site -- not bragging, I just love my power tools!

In exchange for this, I would like to receive a cash payment up front and maybe be outfitted with some of their new, shiny tools.  The contract could be for a year and renegotiated at that time.  Am I on the right track?  Am I being naive/unrealistic?  Or is this angle bigger than I realized and I should go bigHow much of a fee could I expect?  I've been trying to research the internet, but have many questions.   Any insight would be appreciated.

I think what you're proposing fits more a strategic partnership than a joint venture.

If you think that you're in a position to refer customers to this maker of power tools, why don't you outline a brief proposal and run it by them? If they think it's a viable option to increase sales, they will get back to you.

It will most likely boil down to a cost/benefit analysis and depend on how you package the deal.

I hope this helps.

Mark
