Unfortunately that doesn`t help much as I can only see GoTruckStop.com`s main page.  I`m trying to find specifically which section of code you are referring to:

__utm.js
/menu.js

I sent you a PM requesting you to call me ... but since you`ve declined that offer ...

What can I say?

If you are interested in the shopping cart/data base solution that GTS and BH use ... please feel free to contact me directly. I`ll only be in the States till 10Sept06 .... then on to Afghanistan.

TJG - I meant no ill will just I have no interest in purchasing a shopping cart solution.  I do however have interest in seo and wanted to see what you were actually talking about.  I`m pretty sure I have a good understanding now.  Good luck in Afghanistan!

TJ,

I know it works as I have seen on my website, but I don`t understand how or why it works.  I realize it can be found but someone like me would probably never be able to figure it out.  I guess that is why I paid someone to do my website.  You have offered that anyone interested can call you and I would recommend they do as this Javascript truly is priceless.  Especially for a new start up or someone who is having trouble with getting search engine rankings.

Beth (and all my fellow SuN`ers),  I hope it didn`t sound like I was being "snobbish" or "having my nose in the air". I am more than willing to speak with anyone interested in wanting to understand this script. I simply feel, just as you stated, that to try and explain it here would be too complicated. As you posted,

" I realize it can be found but someone like me would probably never be able to figure it out.  I guess that is why I paid someone to do my website."

That is why one of the projects that I`m involved in is providing a "turn-key solution" for new start-ups that are looking for a true solution ... not just a web site.

Again Beth, congrats on the listings. As you might start to realize, Google and other search engines are going to index your site .... then it might fall back to where it was .. then re-index you  and you`ll jump ahead again ... then fall back a few positions ... then re-index you .... (so on and so on). SEO is a never ending saga .... but with this script is suppliments and enhances your efforts.

I am curious about this also. I was under the impression that search engines don`t like javascript too much.  I actually thought it skips anything within the <script> tag. If you`ve found a technique I would love to see a code snippet or something to that affect.

Looking at the javascript code a bit, I didn`t see anything identifiable or obvious. I am always looking at new SEO techniques and would love any additional ideas/implementations to enhance rankings.

Thanks but I am hoping to get info on a more technical/programming standpoint since I am a programmer/developer.

It is true that the homepage and other pages are in html, however to interact with the database it actually uses cgi/perl scripting. You`ll see this once you go to one of the product pages (select something from the dropdown) .

I don`t want to be problematic, but just the name of this post gives me shivers. For an authoritative overview on this topic see the following link:

Google`s Webmaster Guide to JavaScript use

You should always beware of anyone promising that they can game Google. If you inadvertently do something against Google`s terms of service they will remove your site from their indexes (this goes for all the big search engines).

Also, try and keep in mind that being #1 in Google on terms that don`t convert isn`t actually that impressive. You need a strategy of which keywords are likely to help you sell your products or create conversions (whatever your business is).

Using the example above, the success of the keywords boxer treat jar is quite deceptive. The terms boxer, treat, and jar are very generic. Each of them return tens of millions of results. Put quotes around the term "boxer treat jar" and you reduce the listing to a few hundred. Being at the top of this term is great if that is a product you sell, however, very few people will be performing this search. These people are already qualified and likely to buy, so don`t discount them, but a big  goal of SEO is to be at the top of specific search terms and generic search terms, like "treat jar" or "dog treat jar".

Never risk using a tool to get to the top of Google quickly. Use the techniques that are considered best practices: Descriptive URLs that include the keywords you`re interested in, a clear title to the page, using proper structural HTML, and get important online resources in your industry to link to your site.

I don`t understand what the big deal here is?

I wrote an article with the words "ecommerce", "pro" and "photo" in the title. A week later, I`m number #5 on google for "pro ecommerce photo".

There`s no magic to it - just the fact that it`s really easy to rank for specific phrases.
